I see that sky the tv company that invented football are taking sky sports news off freeview from next week, after eight years, there reason because its free just about sums up the state of the game in this country greed is good not a thought for people and the older generation who just cannot afford it. very sad indeed
I won’t miss the likes of Merson and Le Tissier, but Jeff Stelling and the likes of Dean Windass and Chris Kamara do brighten up those those dreary Saturday afternoons when we are away.
Oh well, its the Beeb for me from now on with Garth Crooks???!!!…..I think not.
Years ago, when they first started to get their ‘teeth’ into Football, my dad said “They’ll end up killing football”.
Oh how right was he? I’ve never had Sky. I have Virgin, which I think is good, good choice of all kinds of different channels, etc….and I never feel like I’ve sold out to the devil.
It’s funny when you get those salesmen in places like The Grand Arcade, when they tyry and collar you for a sale (Sky) They give their ‘spiel’ of what great offers they have on, or whatever, and I just usually say “I would never ever have it”. They ask “Why?” and I say “Because they’ve effin killed football and I despise them for it”. They are left speechless…..because they know it’s true.
I have SSN on Virgin, and I think it’s staying on that. But I hate the way it’s gone, and how they’ve been bragging about taking it off Freeview. I also hate the way they now make a ‘drama’ out of everything, and even make stories up, in order to cause some drama. It’s like they are trying to ‘script’ football like American wrestling, as a ‘spectacle’ rather than a sport. It makes me sick.
Adolf Hitler and the Nazi’s were frustrated with football, because they couldn’t dictate what happened and who would win. (True that) Yet 70 years later, a TV corporation led by an egotistical media-mogul is having a damnsight more success at actually achieving this. Even the smallest things show this, such as the man on the touchline having to give the referee permission to kick off, as the camera is rolling. Are they having a laugh? More fool the Premier League and the referee’s for putting up with this. It’s disgraceful.

It’s a SPORT…..not a spectacle!!!
Its all the giving people the choice and without sky the premier league won’t be the best in the world. Even though the premier league is well overated thats my choice.

Are you having a laugh? “Won’t be the best in the world…” (without Sky)
So you are saying that before Sky, or at least their saturation coverage, our football was rubbish was it? How old are you mate? No seriously, I’m wondering how old you are, because to make a comment like that, suggests that you don’t remember football before Sky sank it’s teeth in.
It was doing mighty fine beforehand, believe me. As for it being the best in the world, it’s not even the best league in Europe. The Bundesliga is the best league, and has the highest percentage of goals per game ratio.
It is because Sky are being forced to share their premierleague rights to other companies they will take their SSN away. For me it makes no difference as I have sky but remember how sh*t top flight football was before SKY came along !

Shakes head in disbelief at the ignorance of some folk.
haha feel free to shake head, but dont blinker yourself to think that the world was a better place. The occasional game on ITV was torture, there needs to be a happy medium on the amount of game, but I welcome the new fooballing world from 20 years ago…
Or are you disbelieving I have SKY…. dont worry that is true I do subscribe
but £10 pay to view int nineties, i think one of the first was bruno v lewis, thats when the rot set in.It won’t be long before we can’t watch owt without paying, except propaganda (news). cos if there is no profit to be made then you can’t have it. And this goes for allmost anything these days.
Whats the big deal? Sky are a commercial company , they’re not the BBC who get handouts via the Licence fee. If McDonalds starting charging extra for salt and ketchup people would either pay it, do without or go to Burger King. Its been great having it on Freeview but it’s too bad.
As for Sky ruining English football? I agree whole heartedly.
