I always had my doubts about the takeover. I think DW for all he has done for the club has really sold us a dummy with this one.

I don’t think he has sold us a dummy at all, I think some people have gotten completely the wrong impression.

Having read the accounts it is obvious we are in a pretty poor place in terms of what comes in and what goes out.

DW always said he would sell us to someone who would protect the club and not spend money we don’t have and he has done just that.

People see “chinese investment” and instantly think we will become the new city. Yes Dr Choi the owner of IEC is pretty wealthy but IEC themselves are far from it. They have even said themselves that money won’t be thrown around but we will invest in youth.

I think we have got exactly what it says on the tin, but some people have bought Rola Cola and expect it to taste like Coca-Cola.

I think if they’d promised all sorts and not delivered we could say so. But the new owners made it clear from the start they wouldn’t be throwing money at us. I’m not disappointed by the sale of Grigg just frustrated at the timing of it. Also when the now owners took over they made developing youth a priority. If this sale enables that then it’s a real silver lining to what seems like a dark cloud.

Seriously?? Invest in youth ? Great sentiment.ent but don’t think that goes hand in hand with their desire to be in the Premiership in next few years. All we do is send our youth out on loan never to be seen again.I never expected a massive bankrolled player recruitment but selling the club’s only decent striker sitting near the trap door is a huge f@@@ up and heads need to hang in shame.Cooks sitting him and Macmanaman on bench, changing his team every game and his emphasis on steady eddy players will make the rest of the season painful.

As per usual egg, you reply to a post in a very reasonable manner. However, despite myself usually being generally a positive poster, my doubts re: IEC has now doubled.

The IEC is group of investors led by a business man who is also a professional poker player.
Thier individual wealths has nothing to do with IEC it’s all about what IEC is worth and how much each investor is willing to cleb in so to speak. Been honest looking at what the company owns were certainly not in the Bill Gates category.

To draw a comparison it’s like a educated business guy and his wealthy m8s buying a racehorse bit of fun play toy. For the IEC its a way into the western market which thier portfolio clearly marks out thier future intensions.

The only difference is the IEC will always be guaranteed a return on thier investment which ever way it goes due to their purchase been real estate, a no brainer tbh.

I never once thought we’d be the next mini City far from it. What happened to Grigg was purely math and a business move to simply balance the books and nothing to with we might need Grigg to hit us a few and stay up.
And if we go down ?, More will go and more freebies who’ve been around the block a dozen times and more will arrive, the usual band of end er career type players who originally lived in the north west.

If we stay up I just wonder if Cooks has made a rod for his own back and the IEC will expect him to do it from here on in on a zero budget.
What the IEC have sadly done in my eyes by selling Grigg is they’ve made an overnight divide between fans and in some cases a hatred against them in the short time as new owners not because of the sale of Grigg but Vaughan as well at a time when they are most needed.

I’m not best pleased but that’s football for you. In a matter of weeks it will all come to light and we’ll see if what happened on deadline day was good or bad business.
IEC, Cook the Royles take your pick like a Politician you’ll never get a straight answer.

Jackson will no doubt “Blame it on the sunshine … moonlight….goodtimes…blame it on the boogie !”

I just think they will be exactly the same as Whelan, but less likely to throw their own money at it.

£3m for a player is something we can’t turn down with the losses we have currently. Not selling Powell last year screwed us over essentially.

Got to 110% agree, why tf did we keep hold of him with a year left on his contract when a reported 8-10 million was on the table is beyond me. Its got to be one if not the biggest business fook ups in our clubs history regarding transfers.

The club said last summer that Powell was happy at the club and didn’t want to leave. So for me what should have happened is:

When he said he wanted to stay a 12-24 month contract extension should have been stuffed under right under his nose and told well if your so happy at Wigan you won’t mind signing a contract extension then will you ?. Then if he refused we should have said “Right pack a bag m8 your off Brighton” regardless of how “happy” he is.

The moment last summers window closed his agent would have been eyeing up a freebie summer move and negotiating his move throughout Jan and I’m sure he already knows were he’s off thus making us zero pound notes for 12 months were were still near the bottom.

Every player has a price, there’s no right time to sell in an owner’s eyes, when the dosh is down on the table, off they go , well normally.

Powell should have gone just like the club did with Grigg or did they learn from last summers mistakes and think Lets Not! Hang On To What We’ve Got

Agree about Powell as well. IF we lose him for nothing then that is a big f*** up especially if we get relegated.

The previous ownership turned down a £10m bid for Powell. Reports where Powell was happy to stay, but with no new contract guarantees, he should have been moved out. Even if it meant us taking a lower share of the fee, and using some to encourage Powell to leave.

With regards to Grigg £4m is a huge fee. IMO his true value is closer to the £1.2m mark, maybe £2m if the buyer is in a panic. We’ve done very well to get that fee. When everyone’s fit I don’t think he’d be in the top three choices. On social media you tend to hear the loudest voices. Speaking to fans on match day there’s a very clear split amongst those who think Grigg’s the best thing since sliced bread, and those who think he’s not Championship quality. That’s takes both away from what he’s achieved in the past. But we need to look forward, improve, and avoid mistakes of the past.

As with the signing of McManaman, the previous ownership have put sentimentality, over what’s best for the club. Many fans have done the same too. On balance I believe we’ve had an excellent window. All of the incomings have improved us and strengthened key areas. Both from a pure footballing perspective and with much needed experience.

                      Contracts work both ways.
He works for Latics and has a contract till Summer.
We cannot just get rid. That’s the point of contracts.

Having read EGGS excellent article, perhaps when you consider Bolton Wanderers in a couple of seasons IEC will buy and amalgamate the two
Clubs. Selling off one of the grounds for housing.

For all the good Whelan did. The commercial department and marketing of the club never really progressed beyond lower league level. Outside of TV income and JJB/DW sponsorship, other forms of commercial income, have been pretty much non-existent. Even when in the Premier League.

For some time we’ve needed someone to come in and operate us as a business. Look at the club from top bottom and maximise our profile and facilities.
