For all the good Whelan did. The commercial department and marketing of the club never really progressed beyond lower league level. Outside of TV income and JJB/DW sponsorship, other forms of commercial income, have been pretty much non-existent. Even when in the Premier League.
For some time we’ve needed someone to come in and operate us as a business. Look at the club from top bottom and maximise our profile and facilities.
It must be really tough to market us though in a town full of plastic mancs and scousers. Practically every kids ticket is a loss leader.
