This could develop into the post given the least amount of thought ever, in the history of cockney latic.

Don’t know the complete story, but the very fact that the WASC moved out of the then JJB Stadium in the first place, tells me they should never have even contemplated going back.
Its on par with a load of bikers going into the Hilton Hotel for an overnight stay.
Why pay for overpriced ale in plush surroundings[not for jeans and scruffs] whilst being constantly watched by jumped up bouncers in green jackets.

Just give a thought for Cath, Mary and gang who took in that lonely lost and beaten dog only to be shat on when its cruel owner come calling. :x

Like I said I don’t know the full story and therefore await a quick retort from jayt and gang. :angry-argument:

Filmoss, apart from the re-decoration and allowing for 5 years of price increases I would think it would be exactly the same as pre-premiership days.

As for the sports hall, hardly anybody goes in there nowadays beacuse it’s such a spartan and soulless plaece. I heard somebody call it Tenko once and I can understand why. I would imagine the manageress has done very well thanks out of 5 years of the supporters club, and as far as I know it will still be open, so I don’t think it’s a sob story. And if I remember right I used to go in the South Stand in my scruffs so although it’s smart inside I doubt you’ll have to get dressed up to go in.

I’ll reply even though you obviously responded to Filmoss by mistake.

My point is that for some reason WASC either left the JJB, or was kicked out, or wanted to leave, or was victim of the club getting too big for their premiership boots etc. etc.
When this happened I thought, what a right old carry on, the supporters club being allowed to leave the stadium and go across the road to do their pre match socialising. My understanding was that the Tetley lounge became part of the corporate set up or the new blue chip lounge or summut and therefore the WASC were indeed deemed to be surplus to requirements.

As I say I might be way off the mark, but what I do know is that the old Tetley lounge is now almost empty on match days and perhaps hosting the WASC is now looking a better option for the club than the corporate milarky, which has died on its a_rse.

I never once indicated that you needed to dress up to go into this lounge, I went in there before every home game in my jeans, trainers and replica top and so did most others. What I meant was that the pre match drink, in my view, is best downed in less plush surroundings and so do many others, that’s one reason you’ll find the likes of the Brick bursting at the seams on match days.
The sports hall, as you say, is not the best place for the supporters club to host their pre match banter, its cold looking and uninviting, but as I said, they came to the rescue when something went wrong several years ago.

PS for your info, the manageress as you call her, will get the same wage whether the place has 1 or 10,000 in. However, Wigan Leisure & Culture Trust will lose some much needed income, at a time when they are already being hammered by the governments recent spending review cuts. :teasing-blah:

We are being told that beer prices will be similar if not the same as what you would pay in a bar around the ground, there will also be a bottle/can bar on as well, again at similar prices to what the bars around the ground are paying.

The food will be more varied and obviously it will be more comfortable and more importantly give us control back.

Just an observation like, why put a quote from Filmoss and then not directly answer any of the three questions he asked.

jrfatfan – I know you will know better than most how much benefit the Supporters Club was for the Sports Centre. But the last couple of seasons especially have been hard and sometimes tense.

I won’t go into too much detail, but in the first six home games we had use of that room twice, the PA System is not the best, but the service and such we received was exceptional.

The decision we made to move was a hard one, but it has been made (as it was made when we moved over there) and we stand by it being the right move for the Suporters of Wigan Athletic.

Don’t get me wrong, I hope the marriage is a successful one and although I drive to most home games now, I will bob in for the odd pint when the weather improves and it becomes a canal towpath venture rather than a cosy warm car ride.
Just bugs me to think that our supporters club and supporters, may have been victim of this hungry money making machine that is, the English Premier League. :snooty:

I used to go in the South Stand before it was the family stand but never went in any pre match drinking area so I dont know what to expect if I was to join. This is why I am asking these questions as I am contemplating joining to broaden my pre match drink options. The Brick can get so busy sometimes ! Also whats the smoking situation ? Do you have to leave your pint and go outside or will there be a dolled off area for us hardy smokers ? At the end of the day you want new members and I am merely enquiring !! ;)
