Dont think calling it a massive game now is an understatement.

Stuffing at OT tonight and a must win for us and happy days

      Southampton have won just five games this season;
      Villa h&a
      QPR a
      Reading h
      Newcastle h

These are the bottom teams – except Wigan, of course. The pattern is unlikely to change tonight.

Southampton face the long journey to Manchester today, the return home on Thursday and then back to the North West on Friday. That doesn’t leave much time for training.

Southampton have won twice away from home. Pochettino will quickly find that it’s a very demanding league.

Surely a premiership club would stay in the north west in that case

They might fly of course, Manchester-Eastleigh, but even then the whole journey will be time consuming. If they stay in the NW, I’m sure Dave Whelan can find somewhere to put them up for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights.

Whatever they do, it will interrupt their routine. Wigan have been fortunate to have had short – and successful – trips to Macclesfield and Stoke.

Wigan should be able to close the gap on Southampton this week. If Southampton lose 4-0 tonight and 2-0 on Saturday, they will be level with Wigan on points and goal difference. Southampton, however, would be one ahead on goals scored.

        They’ll be flying.

Back after tonight’s game, and back up on Friday afternoon, so no issue with missing training.

We can’t afford to drop points on this game. They are 3 points ahead of us and these are the sort of games we need to be winning if we want to stay up.

It’s our only home game this month with next two matches away. Next home game Liverpool on 2nd March so let’s hope it a win!!

They seem to be putting up a respectable performance tonight scored first but now trail 2-1 but according to reports are on top in the second half

If Southampton play like they did tonight then we will have to play like we did 2nd half against Stoke ! Has the makings of being a cracking game and I shall predict a 2-2 scoreline, possibly even 3-3 !

You guys do realise that we have only scored three goals in a game once at home this season. After seeing Southampton on MOTD tonight it’ll be a tall order me thinks.

We need to win this game. How and by what margin I don’t care as long as we have 23 points on the board come Saturday evening.

Fergie reckoned the 2nd half performance by Southampton was the best he’s seen by an away team at Old Trafford this season.

The new manager played a pressing game.We may not get the time we need to play our passing game – and they have a proven goal scorer in Lambert.

It will be tough but if we maintain our performance of the second half on Tuesday we should be OK.

Looking forward to a good game now.

The other side of that coin is that the more pressing and open they play, the greater the opportunity for us to counter attack and break them down. Nothing puzzles our team more than seeing two banks of four of worse, a four and a five, in front of them.

The way Saints played last night certainly seems to make for an open, exciting game. Looking forward to it, too

I presume Martinez watched the game last night. Southampton barely made a tackle in the first half, and their goal was a gift from Carrick. But if Martinez came away at half time, he will have got a very wrong impression.

United went in at half time 2-1 up. If they were expecting a similar stroll in the second half, they were in for a shock. Southampton brought on two substitutes – Lallana and Steven Davis – and pressed strongly from the first whistle. United were taken by surprise and never recovered their poise.

Ferguson made changes. He brought on Ferdinand in place of Smalling to cope with Lambert. He now had an unusual – and strangely ineffective – midfield of Welbeck on the left, Kagawa on the right and Carrick and Anderson in the centre. He then moved Jones into the centre of midfield and introduced Nani on the right.

It made little difference. Southampton remained in control and continued to threaten to score. United had great difficulty even playing the ball out from de Gea and got themselves into trouble several times. At the front, Rooney and van Persie rarely saw the ball.

By the end, Southampton will have given Martinez something serious to think about.
