Fergie reckoned the 2nd half performance by Southampton was the best he’s seen by an away team at Old Trafford this season.
The new manager played a pressing game.We may not get the time we need to play our passing game – and they have a proven goal scorer in Lambert.
It will be tough but if we maintain our performance of the second half on Tuesday we should be OK.
Looking forward to a good game now.
The other side of that coin is that the more pressing and open they play, the greater the opportunity for us to counter attack and break them down. Nothing puzzles our team more than seeing two banks of four of worse, a four and a five, in front of them.
The way Saints played last night certainly seems to make for an open, exciting game. Looking forward to it, too[/quote]
Well they pressed us good style in the second half just as they did at Old Trafford and we couldn’t cope with it. We were lucky to get a point in the end. I’d be gutted if I was a Saints fan as they were clearly better than us over 90 minutes.
How can Di Santo score that goal at Fulham but then perform like a headless chicken for the rest of the season. Also to bring Gomez on was a major error. He needs so much time on the ball to create anything and there was no way he was going to get that in the 2nd half.
Only positive today was Scarner.
I was filled with so much confidence after Tuesdays 2nd half showing as well.
Silly me ! :)
2 February 2013 at 10:57 pm #102375Aye, Southampton were much the better side today, and much improved from earlier in the season. I still can’t understand why we don’t press for a second goal, but maybe I am taking credit away from Soton.

I wondered how long it would take.

Where did I blame Gomez for anything? – I just questioned the managers judgement for bringing him on.
The whole midfield was ineffective 2nd half.
And you can have the most “ignorant Tit on the forum” award mate !!

Gomez did ok but you’ve gotta admit the substitutions were shockers, needed someone to get hold of the ball and did I imagine how well henrique did as a sub against Sunderland ? 3 mins was a piss take

yeh not seen one yet myself, might have a mooch tomorrow3 February 2013 at 12:12 am #102408I dont think the previous comments were anti gomez griff. TBH i stick up for him during games whilst others are berating him, but i couldnt understand the decision to bring him on today. Id have thought jones would have been a better option.
