24 March 2017 at 1:21 pm #157216The squad that won League 1 should have been good enough to finish above the bottom three without any additions. We also had Emyr Huws returning to the fold after his self-imposed exile, only to be flogged just as the season started.
The transfer activity in the summer was uninspiring, and did nothing to improve the strength of the squad. Player retention/recruitment is usually dealt with by the Chief Exec and/or Chairman. However JJ is still in post whilst two managers have been sacked.
I strongly suspect at least two of the recent managerial appointments haven’t been JJ’s choice, and the decisions of which players leave and which stay have largely been up to the managers.
But we do love a good scapegoat at Wigan, and with Joyce out of the way and Barrow saying all the right things in the press, the Chief Exec gets his turn!
