The rules relating to allocation of tickets is in the Premier League rules:
7. Unless otherwise agreed by the Board or between the Clubs, each Home Club shall make
available to its Visiting Club:
7.1 3,000 tickets or, if the capacity of the Home Club’s ground is less than 30,000, such
number of tickets as is equal to 10 per cent. of its ground capacity; and, whether or not
that allocation is taken up,
7.2 tickets for a minimum of 10 per cent. of the Home Club’s disabled spectator
accommodation.
8. At least half of the tickets referred to in Rule J.7 above must be made available on a sale or
return basis and the balance must be ordered by the Visiting Club (subject to the conditions
set out in Rule C.78) at least 4 weeks before the League Match to which they relate. The Britannia has a capacity of just over 28,000.
As you will see half have to be offered on a sale-or-return basis (ie 1400) but the other half are not returnable – ie Wigan had to be sure they would sell them not be out of pocket. Guess what they chose?
13 May 2011 at 5:48 pm #65255might also be a safety issue
1400 essier to control after game than 400013 May 2011 at 7:30 pm #65259might also be a safety issue
1400 essier to control after game than 4000That’s a decision that will have been made by Latics then.
Stoke are obliged, if Latics ask for them, to provide up to 2,800 – but only the first 1,400 are on a sale-or-return basis. If Latics ask for the latter 1,400 then they have to pay for them whether they are sold or not.
13 May 2011 at 7:34 pm #65260Martinez and the Wigan directors will be screaming out for the fans to get behind them at Stoke as it’ll go down to last game of season so why only take 1400 tickets ????
Are they expecting us to go down on Sunday so didn’t want to risk taking all 3,000 tickets.
13 May 2011 at 7:40 pm #65261The fans get shite on again!!!!
13 May 2011 at 8:04 pm #65262Are they expecting us to go down on Sunday so didn’t want to risk taking all 3,000 tickets.Doubt they think that, but probably three week’s ago when they had to make the decision, they believed 1400 would be enough.
13 May 2011 at 8:14 pm #65264Griff, it is shocking what the club have done here.
Even 3 weeks ago everyman and his dog PLUS Martinez was saying it’ll go down to last game of season.
Just hope the 1400 that attend create a good atmosphere to back the team up.
13 May 2011 at 8:19 pm #65265Not saying it’s the right decision Scholes, just trying to offer a thought on what their thinking might have been.
Had they sold none of the additional tickets, it would have cost the club £35k. Not a huge amount in the scheme of things, I suppose. That said, had they done, and we did get relegated before the Stoke game and nobody wanted the tickets, people would have slagged them off wasting club money.

we may not have sold the remaining 1400 but neither would wigan be left with 1400,so the 35k does not matter, im betting a further 1000 tkts would sell.
13 May 2011 at 9:43 pm #65271It does matter. The first 1400 are sale or return, the second 1400 the club has to buy whether they sell them or not
13 May 2011 at 11:21 pm #65276Yes, come Griff, get it sorted.
Bet the prawn sandwiches are still available.

From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!14 May 2011 at 2:03 am #65288only two games left and people from wigan have woke up, shame its taken so longThose who got Stoke tickets are season ticket holders so are already ‘awake’.
I had no chance of being anywhere near the ticket office/phone/PC today so feel very short changed at the lack of vision/foresight displayed by the club in what could be the biggest game since Sheff Utd.
