We know who they are, but a quick question seeing as he has an avatar of our ‘closed stand’ in the backgound of our FA Cup game with Hull; where are all the mackams???? there seems to be more and more being kidnapped over the last couple of seasons….
Take our fixture, for example (as I can’t be bothered looking at/wasting any time at looking for any others, sound familiar?):
2007/2008
SoL 43,600
JJB 18,6392008/2009
SoL 39,226
JJB 18,1152009/2010
SoL 38,350
DW 20,477That’s over 5,000 gone, disappeared in less than two years, have the police been notified. I have added our crowds as well over the same years so you don’t need to waste your time looking.

7 February 2010 at 9:23 pm #21941Not guilty. I said when I was very young, never to watch anything from the North East, and I did’nt…………
7 February 2010 at 9:31 pm #21943Whilst you’re at it why don’t you post the away followings at the said matches.
I was there yesterday along with the other couple of hundred, I was also there for the other games, and at the first one in your list we took a few thousand. Now correct me here if i’m wrong, but haven’t Sunderland filled the away end at the DW at every visit?
If I were you I would think before comparing our support with theirs.7 February 2010 at 10:43 pm #21955Good shout Arky

As someone has said, a large chunk of the missing 5000 are from Wigan.
Congratulations on winning the tw@t of the day award though.

DW 18,3043433 down (not quite 5,000 I know, I should have researched first.) That’s 8% down, compared to our 4% in the same period.

PS, not quite so much of a whatever it was you called me?
Not quite as good a shout either Arky. I don’t remember the away crowd being a few thousand in 2007/8, in 05/6 maybe8 February 2010 at 2:48 am #21989Ok mate, they get 39000, we get 18000.
they take 5000 away, we take 500, you win.
PS re-visit your figures after tuesday. ;)8 February 2010 at 11:53 am #22000“Now correct me here if i’m wrong, but haven’t Sunderland filled the away end at the DW at every visit?”
Gonna have to correct you there Arky coz no they haven’t
If I’m honest I can’t remember every away following they’ve brought since we both got promoted (although obviously they weren’t aroudn in the 06/07 season) but I know for the first season we were both in the top flight their following was about 1000-1300
That one sticks in my mind coz it was only 4 or 5 months after they filled the east stand for that midweek game in the championship & they’d been banging on about “true supporters” & all that jazz!!8 February 2010 at 12:44 pm #22002OK pal, I stand corrected.
My point is generally still the same.8 February 2010 at 1:25 pm #22003Well I remember the last time we played them in the Championship. It was a cold Tuesday night and they completely filled the East Stand ! Ya cant knock support like that you really cant !!
8 February 2010 at 3:58 pm #22008Fair point on the championship ship promotion charge, but they will drift away when they are doing badly. When they first moved into the stadium of light and things were going badly, they didnt have such great support !
Somthing to do with JCL or something !
9 February 2010 at 1:17 am #22063Enjoyed Sunderland on Saturday. Our following probably wasn’t huge ( hard to tell when your sat in the middle of it) but the sing song was a good laugh – in particular ,the good natured verbal abuse of Brucey!
Texted Marco Gabiadini on Radio Newcastle earlier, pointed out some of the team failings of Sunderland but suggested a draw was “about right” even though we could have been three to the good.
Ungratious little sod could only belittle our lack of support in the stadium. Hmmm the bigger the crowd, the more points you get!
