We really need to win as many games as possible in April. If we beat Millwall then we will have to play Arsenal during the week before the final weekend of the PL, so we would after the FA cup final (when we may be happy or deflated) we will then have to go to the Emirates and then AV at home. that will be a challenge.

that ^ is fixture congestion, not a couple of rearranged games.
31 March 2013 at 9:05 pm #106892Because its absolutely impossible for professional sportsmen to play potentially 10 quality games in 7 weeks! I mean players like Alcaraz, Scharner, Macmanaman and Kone must have played all of 50 games between em this season the poor lads.
31 March 2013 at 9:33 pm #106897yea and Kone as had a least twenty games

Win (home) – Swansea, Villa; (away) – QPR, West Brom
Other gems: Spurs (home), WHU (away)
STILL based on recent form, availability of player pool and repeat of 2011/12 close to season, DOO-ABLE *
Keep the faith !!!!
* Alcaraz and Kone ever-present in the run-in

Can you imagine the likes of Arsene Wenger and Alex Ferguson if they had that fixture list??
1 April 2013 at 12:16 pm #107026my concern is the last week (arsenal and AV). If we should win or loose the fa cup theirs bound to be a reaction (negative) through eleation or deflation and we have 2 critical games to play.

I think Martinez and Whelan will already have discussed this and have plans in place to keep the lads focussed on the job. We’re in a good position with injuries at the minute and can actually make a few changes here and there so if players want to play then they’ll have to be switched on.
1 April 2013 at 3:55 pm #107082I’m glad to see that supporters recognise the problems – physical and mental – of playing in two competitions.
There’s likely to be a reaction after the semi final too – for both Wigan and Manchester City.
Manchester City have much greater resources to overcome the problem. They can virtually field two first teams – so they have lots of players who want to make an impression.
Looking ahead, if Wigan do achieve European football, it will put a great burden on their modest squad next season.
1 April 2013 at 4:05 pm #107088This has to be an April Fool – a well-written rational article in the Daily Mail about us
1 April 2013 at 4:51 pm #107104In The Times on Saturday, Tony Cascarino predicted the results for the remaing games and came up with;
42 Southampton
39 Aston Villa
39 Wigan
38 Sunderland
34 QPR
24 ReadingThat looks very tight, but he did give Sunderland a point against Manchester United. He didn’t mention the semi final.

Are you trying to claim playing in Europe has not affected Newcaslte this season? Come on now. They were challenging for 4th last season, this season they’ll be happy to finish 4th from bottom.

I think JPC01 does agree – he is comparing Newcastle this season and last season.
2 April 2013 at 2:54 am #107215Didn’t affect Fulham when they got to Final! Ah well. Lets not dream. Lets carry on fighting relegation year in and out, win nothing, be little Wigan and stay firmly in our place. We’ve been on the edge of relegation for years without any cup runs so whose to say what knock on it will have? In league and FA cup this season it’s notable that the squad is much stronger. A few more players in the Summer could see us competitive in all competitions.
