Didn’t affect Fulham when they got to Final! Ah well. Lets not dream. Lets carry on fighting relegation year in and out, win nothing, be little Wigan and stay firmly in our place. We’ve been on the edge of relegation for years without any cup runs so whose to say what knock on it will have? In league and FA cup this season it’s notable that the squad is much stronger. A few more players in the Summer could see us competitive in all competitions.

Fulham have played in the Europa League twice.

They did sensationally well in 2009/10. They had an excellent manager – Roy Hodgson – who turned Zamora into an international centre forward.

Fulham couldn’t repeat their success in 2011/12 under Martin Jol. They just failed to qualify from the Group Stage.

      Bolton Wanderers

In 2005/06, Sam Allardyce marked Bolton Wanderers’ debut in European competition by fielding a weakened side against Lokomotiv Plovdiv. He was more concerned about picking up three points away to Manchester City on the Sunday.

In 2007/08 Bolton Wanderers manager Gary Megson made Premier League survival his number one priority and travelled to Lisbon for the second leg of the last-16 tie with a team shorn of stars.

      Aston Villa

In 2008/09, with Aston Villa in third place in the League, Martin O’Neill decided to concentrate on a top four place and put out a reserve team in the UEFA Cup. Following the defeat in Moscow, Villa failed to win any of their next 10 league games and failed to finish in the top four.

In 2009/10, Aston Villa failed to reach the Group Stage of the Europa League, but finished sixth in the League for the third year running. It has been all downhill since then.

Quite right! I’m not taking anything for granted. It’s going to be a bruising encounter with Millwall.

Of course I do want to win the Cup – but the consequence of getting a place in the Europa League is another matter.

Not many clubs have a memorable history in Europe. Even Aston Villa – then third in the Premier League – felt it necessary to field a reserve side.

THe QPR game next Sunday is such a big game, hopefully the desire to win a place in the starting eleven fro Wembley will give them the incentive to put in a performance.

If you cut out the 2 Samba error’s last night, QPR were up for it and if they disply that intensity next week at home, it will be a very difficult game for us.

But they must be disheartened by yesterday’s result.

What mood will they be in on Sunday? They may come out full of spirit but an early goal should knock the stuffing out of them.

So let’s go for an early goal!
