I thought Roger had a half decent game considering he was slightly out of position. None of the glaring errors were his and he scored a cracking goal.

You didn’t watch the same game then. He was shocking last night and played a part in two goals conceded. Headless chicken springs to mind!!
I dont know what game you were watching Jimmy but from what I saw he scored , was crossing the ball in comfortably on his left foot, made a couple of decent tackles and even beat a man to a header.

Judging off the above alone and providing he can continue to hit a decent cross now and then he has already gone way above Jeany B in my estimations.
Some of your comments above gave me a chuckle

Yes he did score so hats off to him for that…. but that was the only thing he did all night, other than one good cross into the box that i can recall. No quality about him what so ever. IMO!

Each to their own i suppose..
All for differing opinions but he did make some good tackles and a decent header if you watch the highlights back.

The general point I was heading towards is Jeany B IMO has this season provided nothing but a few select crosses/passes. While we cant disregard the value of his assists if Espinoza can get a couple of crosses and passes in himself but make us stronger on the wing defensively ( Milner will start in the final) then I am all for giving him a sustained chance.

I thought that Beausejour came second to Jarvis – a pure winger who cost more than £10 million – in the number of successful crosses made this season. I doubt that Espinoza will be able to match that.

Beausejour does have good ball control – passes to him land dead at his feet. I was watching Espinoza in the first half last night as he was playing right in front of me. After his first touch, the ball usually bounced above his waist!

And Espinoza is much better going forward than defending – his rash tackling makes him an enormous liability. He positively will not make us defensively stronger on the wing – quite the opposite.

The only reason to play him in that position is if there is no-one else.

Regards last night’s team selection Bob pretty much got it spot on. With Jean missing Espinosa was the only left back option – after his WBA performance Stam HAD to be left out – that meant Caldwell had to come in at centre back to allow Boyce to move across – he even had the guts to make the probably correct decision to drop Jordi for McArthur.

We didn’t concede three goals last night through “tactical ineptitude” , it was a combination of horrendous individual defensive errors and general fatigue.

Thought Roger did ok ‘headless chicken’ comment is a tad harsh, I’d say passionate and committed.

What I will say though, is as much as I hate criticising players, I feel Kone lacks that bit of nous that would make him a great striker, he does not appear to read a situation too well, no anticipation and too many times his first touch lets him down. He had a great chance late on (header) but always seems to hit the keeper rather than spaces either side. Saturday at WBA , I really think he was at fault for their second goal, wrong side of the striker and then never even jumped to make a presence. Still I still back him to get our winner on Saturday at Wembley.

Spot on, in my humble opinion. (Although I may have gone for Golobart instead of Caldwell)
