It’s like ‘Football Manager’ versus good old ‘Monopoly’!

Guys, Mr Whelan is a brilliant business man and also the family are true Latics fans. I’m pretty sure he will not want this fabulous club to go into decline. He will have done his very own due diligence to ensure he has sold the club to owners that he himself as a fan is happy with. He undoubtedly has done his homework on these guys.

They can do all the checks they want but once the sales done Whelan has no say what so ever and within reason they can do as they please council permitting. That should be easy enough once they get their bag of HK dollar.
Don’t forget, their main business is leasing so I wouldn’t be shocked at a few pop concerts at the DW.

Granted, the board members are very rich men but this IEC is a separate entity from their wealth, a cheap way to get into UK football and what their getting is a club with the ground , training facilities and know how for the Prem.
I just hope I’m wrong with my doubts and Cook gets a chunk of dosh to strengthen the squad.
So they will knock down the stadium, training ground and all other land acquired to build hotels at the cost of millions and hope they can turn a profit in a few years. OR they can try to gain promotion and land hundreds of millions guaranteed. Mmm wonder which way they will go.
So which bit did i say knock the stadium and training ground down ??, give your glasses a wipe. looking at same of the board members involved in the takeover I personally feel were no more than an assest to establish them as a company in the UK.

The head honcho is a guy called Stanley, a professional poker player so you can say calculated gambling is his forte. As far as I can see their main assest is leasing and one hotel so on paper Whelans JJB at it’s height was worth far far more than IEC.

Now if the rather rich board members start dipping into the XXXXXL pockets then strap yourselfs in because we might just be in for one hell of a second ride on the Wigan Athletic roller coaster and we all know how wild that can be.

If you want to know what they’ve bought in the deal and who sold shares scroll down to the bottom. As far as I can see their getting some serious amount of land in the deal.

I think a dirty great big 24/7 Casino Hotel will go up with riverside waterfront views and all it’s wildife habitants

My concern is this….The new owners have said they want premier league football in 2 seasons, which is fine if thats what they want. However, there are also clubs far bigger than ourselves wanting the same thing. If we as a club fail to reach their aspirations, what then? Do they invest more money or do they pull out – leaving us in the ****.

My concern also runcorn. If it doesn’t go to plan, what do they do then?

Mr Jackson told us at Southend it would cost 10 million a year to survive in the Championship and Uncle Dave cant afford to loose that much money every year so would you like to loose that much ? I certainly wouldn’t as for IEC I’ve not got a scubbies they must have 10 million a year to throw away i guess.

He didn;t mean that the club would lose £10mill a season in the championship he said that’s how much it would cost
The club would of course be taking money in through gate receipts, sponsorship, TV money etc.

Anyway, Dave Whelan (or anybody else for that matter) wouldn’t have to lose £10mill a season although they’d still have to cover a short fall that might put a light dent in our own sky rockets!!!

My replies are in CAPITALS.

Sharpeys £150K
THERE ARE HOUSES ON WORSLEY HALL WORTH THAT!
Christopher Park £1.2M
AGAIN, THE LAND HAS TO BE WORTH LOTR THAN THAT TO A DEVELOPER.
Euxton £1.35M
ABOUT RIGHT FOR WHAT WE PAID.

Total £2.7M is on top of the £22M.

All the Whelan family loans and debts to Barclays are to be cleared and they are investing £700K a month into the running of the club affairs until the take over is complete.

I understood the Stadium cost £28M, but as real estate it is not worth anything like that.
56 MILLION IS WHAT I’VE ALWAYS KNOWN.
The playing squad as assets in real terms is not worth that much unless they are wanted by someone so you can’t real put a massive figure on that.

It was said that BHA offered £10M for Nick Powell, but that would only be come to fruition with add ons and over a long period.

We would struggle to get £1M for any other player. Their value will obviously go up now we are in the Championship, but all this will have been taken into account.
DISAGREE. GRIGG, JACOBS, BURN, MORSY ALL MILLION POUND PLAYERS BY TODAY’S STANDARDS.

If they are pumping in £700K for the day to day running of the club, that means it was costing DW £8.4M a year to keep the club functioning.

10,000 season tickets at £250 each would only bring in £2.5M, so £6M per season has to be found from elsewhere.
That’s not an easy task, and one he most likely found too hard to keep working at at his age.
WELL HE HAS SHOT HIMSELF IN THE FOOT THEN BY CONSTANTLY SPONSORING OUR SHIRTS WITH HIS OWN COMPANY… THAT’S A LOT OF LOST SPONSORSHIP INVESTMENT.

He may have made a loss overall and sold it all cheaper than its full worth, but like anything, it is only worth what someone is willing to pay.
I THINK ITS RIDICULOUSLY CHEAP,22 MILLION. THAT SAID, HE PAID PEANUTS FOR US IN 95.

He, like us has enjoyed it and had a bloody good time over the last 20 odd years. Fair play to him and thank you for everything Mr Whelan. you deserve a Knighthood for what you have achieved and given to the people of Wigan and the country as a whole.
AGREE WITH THAT.

By all accounts IEC will pay roughly £16.5 million upfront then topped up with a £6.5 million loan, that doesn’t sound like a company who are gonna throw money at money

Why dont people just wait and see how things develop. We needed a new investor and we have got one I wish people would stop bleating before they have something to bleat about. Has Dave Whelan let us down over the last 20 years ?

Precisely. The Whelans are not willing to put any more in – and why should they? They have already done far more than anyone else in their position would have.
So the options open to us are find a little local businessman (Ian Lenagan anyone?) who won’t have anything like the resources needed and may just about keep the club alive — maybe. In the National League.
Or hang on for the ride?
I know which I’d prefer.

If they are willing to splash out £22M they are not going to run the club down and let their investment waste away.
IEC as a company may not have millions and millions to throw at the club, but the men behind the company and their affilated companies from all accounts are all very wealthy individuals.
JJB and DW Sorts were on paper worth more than IEC, but it was Dave Whelans personal money that was invested into WAFC not JJB’s or DW Sports.
