Children or not, I hope they get banned. I was kind of hoping the stewards could have given a few of them a slap or two but no such luck.

you would have thought having 2 rows of stewards for the north stand, someone would have spotted a hundred children making their way to the front of the east stand and done something about it.

I didn’t go on the pitch Bath but as you and Landgate both point out, the stewards were given fair warning and didn’t line the East stand, by not doing this, they invited the kids to run on really. As we all know this was the norm every season at Springfield Park, we just live in health and safety mad, politically correct Britain these days. Those kids were merely celebrating us staying in the Premier League, why should they be slapped (I didn’t see them slapping anyone) or banned for the failure of the stewards ?

because they didnt run onto the pitch at the end of the game. there is a difference between celebrating at the end of the game when its over and acting like a bunch of kids trying to show off.

I’ve no problem with people running on the pitch……..just as longa s it’s at the end of the game, and we’ve actually got something to celebrate and get excited about!

That, on Monday, was just a bunch of little Chav’s who were doing it because they’re not supposed to do it.

My first thought was, “sh*t! We’ll be alright if they punish us by docking us points!”

              It was absolutely pathetic.

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to start a thread about the pitch invasion after the goal.

What is the big deal with this? Someone please tell me!

Everyone who ran onto the pitch (including myself) was merely celebrating the goal/survival with it being our last home game + there were a lot of adults (including myself) some of whom have been watching Latics for years (including myself again). The only problem was we scored in the last minute when everybody was waiting to go on at the end.

One guy said to me on the pitch it’s not even full time and the guy behind me asked where Phil Dowd (I was also looking for that clown!) was so not everyone on the pitch was a kid. I think everyone was a little confused as to what was going on but I ran on in celebration of the goal as I always did at away games when in the lower leagues. I don’t see the harm/fault to be fair, the police and stewards didn’t hold anybody back until the pitch started filling up with fans. Nobody started any trouble with the Hull fans and/or players like in other matches but I do accept if the Hull fans had started to get on the pitch trouble may have errupted but that’s why the stewards lined up infront of their fans, to stop any coming together.

I have had a season ticket at Wigan for around 14 years now, should I be banned? The guy’s I saw on the pitch are both 30+ and have been watching Latics for donkeys years, should they be banned?

12-year old chavs, I can sort of understand.

You seriously don’t see how pathetic and childish it is for a (supposedly) grown man to be running on to a football pitch at any time?

Ignoring, for one moment, that it is actually illegal too.

Griff, I am not a grown man as you put it (early 20’s myself) and yes, I understand it is illegal but I was merely celebrating our last minute goal. Simple as that.

I didn’t run across to the west stand, in fact I hardly even got onto the playing area but I caused no trouble/harm.

Also, there were 2 lines of stewards in front of the Hull fans, one of which was ensuring they didn’t enter the field and the other was blocking any Wigan fans on the pitch getting near the Hull fans which, in my opinion is good stewarding as they knew Wigan fans would go on at the end of the game.

If that goal hadn’t have gone in then the fans would have gone on the pitch at the end of the game. The excitement of the goal is what caused the invasion but I keep hearing invading during the game???? There had just been a goal, play had stopped, it’s not like hundreds of Wigan fans just decided to invade the pitch mid-game.

There is a difference between exuberance spilling over and the scorer getting mobbed and taking five minutes to make your way down ES2 to the front then run to the centre circle showing how naughty you all were.

I don’t think the supervised children in the south stand tried it or anyone in the west stand. Chav children might not know better but you certainly should.

Embarrassing and illegal and you are only lucky it was the last home game of the year otherwise the club would be doing something about it too.

You sound like you are apologising rather being proud of it and so you should be.

I love the debate regarding the pitch invasion.

                        Harmless fun?
                        Celebration?
                        Idiotic chavs?

It’s all been blown up if you ask me. If you went on the pitch why did you do it? Celebrating the goal? Celebrating premier league survival? Or because you’re a chav?

Why do the guys who didn’t go on the pitch making a big deal of it? It doesn’t affect you in any way? Or does it?

A young kid came running back into the east stand with the biggest smile i’ve ever seen on his face because Ben Watson gave him his shirt. His dad was on the pitch with him. Does that make his dad a chav who was acting like a d!ck?

I see you don’t consider yourself to be a grown man although you are in your 20s. Out of interest, when do you plan on growing up?

I understand it is illegal but

Not sure you can have “but” following the first part of that sentence. It’s just illegal.

The excitement of the goal is what caused the invasion but I keep hearing invading during the game???? There had just been a goal, play had stopped, it’s not like hundreds of Wigan fans just decided to invade the pitch mid-game.

Any point between the first and final whistles is mid-game.The final whistle hadn’t blown, ergo it was like hundreds of Wigan fans just decided to invade the pitch mid-game

Oh, and did I mention it’s illegal?

When you said grown man I was thinking more along the lines of a guy say your age rather than a young adult which is what I would class myself as.

                            I am no Peter Pan!

Out of interest, have you ever entered the field of play either in celebration of a goal or at the end of a game (or both)?

I can’t speak for all the other guys/kids who entered the pitch but I did it in celebration of the goal. Yes it’s illegal but if I gave one about that I wouldn’t have gone on. I drive at 40mph in 30mph zones, I have used a mobile phone when driving (most mornings), I have entered the pitch on multiple occasions celebrating Wigan goals, etc. I don’t live by the law!

It was no Sheff Wednesday vs Palace or York vs Luton was it?

                              Celebration?

We scored a last minute goal, it was our last home game this season and we are in the premier league for the 6th consecutive season. As i’ve said I can’t speak for everyone who entered the pitch but I did it for these 3 reasons.

                              Idiotic chavs?

                              you said it

I am no chav but there may well have been a number of chavs on the pitch at the same time as me.
