“I can’t speak for all the other guys/kids who entered the pitch but I did it in celebration of the goal. Yes it’s illegal but if I gave one about that I wouldn’t have gone on. I drive at 40mph in 30mph zones, I have used a mobile phone when driving (most mornings), I have entered the pitch on multiple occasions celebrating Wigan goals, etc. I don’t live by the law!”

What a rebel. Ever considered that these rules and laws are made for a reason?

I was not making myself out to be a rebel, simply pointing out the fact that on a daily basis I do things that aren’t legal.

The pitch invasion was harmless, probably the best part of the game for many of the young kids who went on the pitch especially the young lad who ended up with Watson’s shirt.

I can see no harm in it myself and the older guys who I saw on the pitch were all happy in celebration of the goal. You see players running into the crowd to celebrate and they are booked for it as it’s not allowed in the game anymore, fans aren’t allowed to run onto the pitch to celebrate with the players (these kids heroes) and what will be next to take more fun out of the game?

Don’t try to justify what you did.

You entered the field of play WHILE the match was still going on. Not at the end.

If nothing else – and there is actually loads else – you stopped the team being able to celebrate a fine goal – they had to run for cover.

I find it difficult to vaguely accept kids doing it. But some of them don’t know any better. As for anyone over the age of 16 then I am sure they got your picture on camera (and despite most things we do at Wigan, the quality of the pictures from the cameras is excellent) and maybe you’ll be getting a letter through your door informing you that you needn’t bother renewing your season ticket. I’d keep checking the post if I were you.

What’s all the fuss, you ask? Did you listen at all when you were having your moment of glory?

There were about 18,000 people booing you. :?

dont remember all this fuss – when there was a pitch invasion at lets say
          Wycombe about 10 years ago

was viewed as banter then – was it because many under the influence having had a good pub stop some hours earlier !!

and we were away from home?

The reaction of some people regarding the pitch celebration is way too extreme. Calling for bans???!!! Next thing you know these same people will be moaning about low crowds.

I’ve been on the pitch at Bury, Preston, Burnley, Stockport, Blackpool to name but a few celebrating goals. I did exactly the same on Monday and to see the sort of reaction from some of our ‘fans’ is just remarkable.

Tea Bag Head hits the nail on the head by saying in as many words what’s the big fuss.

Also, bickymon realises the club won’t be kind enough to issue 3 year bans to our fans.

You’re reading into my posts a little too much

I should also point out that I could have simply been winding people up on this forum trying to get a reaction. Could I be or did I defo go on the pitch?

Yes you did, and your backtracking is exruciatingly embarrassing. I haven’t seen anything in your previous posts to suggest that you have the wit to initiate and keep up this kind of wind-up.

And what is so fascinating about running about on somebody else’s grass anyway? Don’t you have a garden?

ask the administration on this message board to delete this whole thread and hope mister whelan and the police have not read any of this and you could be saving your back passage geting hammered or if the have read it i will stand up in court for you for a nominal fee of around one hundred pounds and say you sat next to me through the whole game

I should also point out I didn’t attend the game on Monday, I was working. I don’t own a mobile phone and I have a battery powered car which only goes 30mph at full pelt.

I have covered my ass but thanks for the offer jungle!

Bloody hell! Going off your age, you must have used a baby walker to invade the pitch against some of those teams. Bury? Stockport? When was the last time we played them?

I think the big fuss is, when people invade the pitch, it’s usually either:

A: To celebrate winning something, a promotion, survival, or getting to a cup final.

                        Or

                        B: To attack rival fans/players.

In this instance, option ‘B’ could easily of been mistaken as being the reason, as apart from a goal, we had sod all else to celebrate.

The only reason the ‘chavs’ run on, was due to lack of general discipline and sheer delinquancy. I.E. Being little p*icks. And yes, GL is right, 18,000 people were booing.

I’ve only ever been on the pitch once, when we beat Millwall in the Play Off semi final, in 2000, an occasion which actually saw a ‘mass’ invasion, not just a load of delinquant idiots. I’ve never considered it since, and as I’m in my mid 30’s, I should hope I never do.

I bet everybody on this board has been on a football pitch at the end of a season, when they were younger and it wasn’t frowned upon. It was a bit premature the other day but nobody ran towards the Hull fans, they ran to celebrate the goal with the players, I’m a bit old for running on the pitch now but I certainly don’t feel that anybody from the other day should be banned.

Let’s take every last ounce of passion out of the game, sit down in our seats quietly, very quietly – infact why not do what others do, watch on sky in our front room, pipe and slippers on.

I agree no need to ban anybody.
