On reflection, I think you’re all being a bit harsh on Liverpool. Of course they want the best – someone with pride, passion, new ideas, someone who’ll get the best out of the under performing likes of Downing, Henderson, Carrol etc. A club with such a magnificent history and tradition deserve to be challenging for major honours year in, year out. They need a manager fans can relate to – one of them, someone who knows the finer points of the game like they do, not someone (for all his good points) like Martinez. They can’t afford the gamble on a three year plan which is probably not going to work anyway. I can’t see the point in looking backwards to Rafa either and AVB clearly couldn’t hack the pressure at Chelsea. This leaves only one person in my opinion who can make them great again and a local lad aswell. He ticks all the right boxes. Stand up and take a bow Sir Jimmy Tarbuck.
I’m a red. I registered just to make a couple of points.
Firstly, don’t judge all the fans by the smattering of knobheads that shout the loudest on the internet. Especially not over at sites like Liverpool-Kop. It’s a crap, biased, unfriendly ‘community’ full of twonks.
Secondly, I don’t think Martinez is up for the Liverpool job. Not because he isn’t a decent manager, mind. I don’t think he’s a mature enough manager to handle the pressure that goes with that particular position.
After the issues that nearly saw the club enter administration a year and a bit ago the fans are anxious. The previous board have proved they’re a bunch of halfwits and the current one, well, there isn’t a current one.
There’s no structure or confidence at the club and, now that Kenny’s been sacked, the fans will have whoever gets the seat under a microscope from the get-go, as will the arseholes of the press.
If Martinez came to Liverpool now it would destroy his career while it’s in its infancy. He’s already a sound manager but he’ll be a great one someday. The job isn’t just managing and motivating players at LFC, it’s politics, PR and working under intense scrutiny both from the owners (who want top 4 at all costs) and the press, who are a shower of cunts.
Most decent, match going reds that I know think a lot of Martinez, especially after he spoke out in favour of Benitez over that Sir Baconface bollocks, but they want someone with a bit more experience.
FWIW I’ve not heard a single one of me mates slate him.

Cyas.
The voice of reason. Well put mate.
I was interviewed by 5 Live last Thursday just after Dave Whelan had gone public with the approach and one thing I said was to ask how long would Liverpool give Roberto to get it right and pointed out that Wigan had given him three years to date.
The response I got from the BBC guy was about three months.
Whoever takes the job will be up against it from the outset and although plenty of managers will say that they would relish the challenge but to be honest I reckon most would be kidding themselves.
3 months sounds about right. What’s the point in taking a decent, up and coming manager and putting him in harms way? Makes no sense to me and Martinez would be mental to even consider it. Which is something we know him not to be, right? Here’s hoping he stays put and does a good job with your mob next term.
There are only a couple of people that have the chops to withstand that sort of pressure and, as you say, Rafa’s one of them. I dunno where it’ll all end, to be honest. It’s like car crash at the moment.
