I was happy to see Bayern Munich go through for a couple of reasons, the most obvious being the armchair Utd fans who’ve jumped on the bandwagon across the country.
When I was at school in the 80’s, early 90’s, Utd were the butt of all the jokes, it was Liverpool this, Liverpool that. I did know a group of older Utd fans, they were season ticket holders then, and season ticket holders now, they couldn’t be anymore different to the typical Wigan based Utd fans these days.
The other reason is because the Bundesliga is a fantastic league, everything the Premiership should be.
They manage to not only produce great club teams, they also deliver on the international stage, their stadiums are modern, but retain charactor, match tickets are good value for money, and best of all, they don’t have the huge chip on their shoulder the Premier League do.
Listening to 5 Live a month or two back, the Premier Leagues representative summed up everything thats wrong with this league. His response to fans concerns, on a range of issues, was to throw out the cliche about the Premier League being the best league in the world, as if this excused fans being screwed over and clubs being put into huge debt.
The sooner the Premier League is brought down to earth the better.
10 April 2010 at 12:08 am #29131The Premier is seven rich clubs fighting to get in the Champions league and 13 poor clubs fighting to avoid relegation. The other 13 play poor football and (Latics excluded)charge a ridiculous price to watch.
10 April 2010 at 6:04 am #29149I hate that club with a passion i really do.
Its the whole thing those irritating poncified yellow and green scarves against what exactly and their happy clappy corporate fans? The club has been a blatant capitalist regime for years and years in my view more so when Edwards had it but now its a problem when an American constructs a business deal that makes him and his family as much money as possible(it happens elsewhere IN FOOTBALL doesnt it?).
That horrible red faced sh/t with his complaints when not enough time is added (when they are losing) and too much(when they are winning) and the whole irritating media thing that they are some sort of unofficial national team that we should all applaud.
He started this ridiculous time keeping system that we see today with his feckin stop watch all those years ago and i hate the blatant gamesmanship that is displayed from his players and himself every time they play.
I hope for footballs sake they dont win the league and i hope Glazer bleeds them dry to send them back to obscurity.
IT CANT COME SOON ENOUGH!Vince
For the record, although it seems unlikely, I hope Man Utd or Arsenal win the league, and not Chelsea.
I would prefer a team who have achieved their status through loyal fans’ support and worldwide popularity to win the league, rather than a club fabricated by a foreign billionaire with too much time to fill and not enough to fill it with.
I have no great love for United, but at least everything they have achieved has been on merit (well, my definition of merit at least), and I am p*ssed off that there is no English team going to be in the Champions League final.
10 April 2010 at 1:49 pm #29153I think it will be quite funny should Barcelona win the Champions League in the Bernabéu !! The post match celebrations would be marred by trouble though no doubt, which would be a shame !
