Fact is a manager who says we should be scoring then doesn’t play strikers who can score is as thick as pig shit.

I’ve just been to watch the Development Squad and so have actually seen Billy McKay play.

He is not the Messiah. I think Fortune provides more overall to be honest.

Cockney Latic favourite trait :- If we can compare and relate Latics to the early 90’s then the current predicament becomes acceptable.

I think it’s more to do with people saying this is the worst Wigan side ever when it quite clearly isn’t.

It maybe isn’t the worst ever, but it is by far the worst since John Benson was in charge.

I can’t think of anyone I know who would advocate playing McKay instead of Fortune. At least Delort was scoring in the reserves! Most are saying play somebody off Fortune. I’d play Sinclair and Waghorn but I’d cope with any striker off Fortune. We just need a goal scorer on the pitch. Something which I’ve been saying since we loaned/sold all our quality.

I always thought we would come good and get out of the bottom three. After that last night i have changed my mind. I would go as far to say that was the worst wigan athletic performance i have seen for a long while. Unable to keep the ball, stray passes all night, being caught in posession, no goal threat, ball up in the air all the time, its just a mess. We’re a team full of loan players who couldnt give a shit if we go down or not, they will be off at the end of the season, young kids having a kick about just to gain a bit of experience and journey men who nobody else wants. After last night i think we will go down, i hope iam wrong but i cant see a way out. we need to start a fresh, new manager for a start, someone with new ideas who will play old fashioned attacking football with a settled team and forwards who can score goals. We need a new team, players who want to be here, who want to wear the blue and white who actually give a shit. Its going to take time, its going to be a hard, its going to be a long haul but its got to happen so we don’t have to put up with that shite we saw last night.

Spot on there but we have not had a manager like that since Steve Bruce. Now who could and would have the guts to play this kind of football and re-build our side on a budget?

I actually thought we matched Watford for large periods of the game, the first half apart from the opening 10 mins was fairly even. The difference once again was that chances were missed by us and taken by Watford.
When we were chasing the game late on, we got caught on the break a few times. That was no way the worst performance of the season. We didn’t play any better at Rotherham on Satdy.

A draw would have been a fair result I think.

That’s why Kvist was brought on to stop the breaks

Kvist gave the ball away a few times when he came on and got us on the back foot. Boycie was blowing bubbles trying to catch the geezer who won the penalty.
Not sure what your point is, but Kvist was not the reason we lost last night and was not the reason we got caught on the break. Perhaps shoving Big Harry up front for the last 5-10 mins was more of a reason we got caught on the break.

I never said that Kvist was the problem last night I said he was brought on to stop the Watford counter attack

The problem was that the three players who got took off where the ones who were creating the attacking play that we had

Whelan took this club to heights we could only dream of 20 years ago by courtesy of his financial backing, shrewd judgement and business acumen. Yes there were a few mistakes on the way but for the best part he got it right. It stands as a testament to the man that this small town club surrounded by footballing giants lasted eight seasons in the Premier League, won the FA Cup and played competitive European football on gates of less than 20 thousand and didn’t bankrupt itself.

It had to come to an end of course and in hindsight perhaps Whelan should have handed over the reins after the cup win and relegation. He carried on but his judgement began to falter and those hiccups that had hindered our rise to the top became disasters, firstly by appointing the square peg that was Coyle then allowing Rosler to gamble good money on players that were unproven or just not suited at this level, culminating in the disastrous appointment of Mackay and his shameful and illfounded attempts to defend that decision.

“Trust me on this one”, Whelan said about Mackay but how can a man with an FA charge hanging over him on some not so trivial matter expect to successfully manage a football club with credibility and authority. We might still avoid the drop but if we do it will be in spite of Mackay rather than because of him.

We have so much to thank Mr Whelan for but it is a great pity that the wonderful legacy he intended to leave us has been so badly tarnished.

Personally, I thought Kvist was brought on merely because Kim was used to replaced the ineffective Ojo on the left.
