We used to get winter nips from the other shop on the opposite corner of the car park next to the Springfield Hotel.
Peter Houghtons goal v Villa in league cup, pitch invasion at Cov after Pattersons late leveller, Tommy Gores winner at the Bridge and one of my all time fave moments, the team walking up the Wembley steps to lift the FRT in 85.
I remember going to Blackpool in the FA Cup in the early eighties and getting frisked on entering the packed away end when it was still covered.
The Copper who frisked me asked what I had in my inside jacket pocket and I replied ‘cig lighter mate’. ‘Alright lad’, he replied ‘on you way’.
As I climbed up on to the terrace I checked my pocket only to find my pruning knife from work, I had gone straight from work and completely forgot I was still in my works jacket.
God knows what he would have done had he actually asked me to empty my pocket.
The knife came in handy later in the day on the prom when faced with a load of Blackpool lads???????????????????????????????????……………………………………………………………………………………………joking.
Replay was one of those big crowd nights at Springy. All away fans went on the terrace to the left of the Phoenix Stand. Didn’t even have away fans in The Shevvy end then. Then the yogurt knitting, tree hugging, rugby loving left wingers from Wigan Council with their disgusting treatment of our club slowly chipped away at the capacity with their ridiculous excuses when we all knew their main motivation was to destroy our club. Oh how I resented that Mon from Wigan Kremlin on the podium when we brought the FA Cup to town.
Being caged in at Blackpool in the FA Cup in 1979. I distinctly remember looking around and thinking if anything was to happen there was no way to get out. I bit prophetic as it turned out.

There were some dangerous grounds back in the day, Blackpool was probably one of the safest.
Goodison Park was horrendous for our FA Cup tie when we got beat 3-0, if we had scored that day there would have been chaos.
Even some of the smaller grounds were unsafe, I have never seen cages on a ground as bad as Doncaster Rovers. Nob End was bad in the Town End when it was packed, no way out apart from the way you came in.
Rotherhams old ground was unbelievable to access and not too great when you got in.
