4 April 2017 at 2:26 am #157502It is over but just watch our side with no striker win at Ipswich.
I hope you are right and we can turn this dismal season around, seven wins on the bounce should do it.
4 April 2017 at 2:58 pm #157512Can anyone remember a NPL select 11 playing a Man City 11 at Springy? More bricks thrown that night than a Saturday night in 80s Belfast.
I vaguely remember that one.
I still have the programme somewhere from when we played Metallist Kharkiv.
I think we played the China National team and the Zambian National team around that time too.
We also played a few of the Moscow sides.[/quote]Think I went the Torpedo game. Or I had the program at least.
6 July 2017 at 11:12 pm #160282A lot of great memories have come flooding back over the summer thanks to latics stalwart Andy Vaughan.
I am in the middle of reading his excellent book again from a few years back, ‘Punk football’ which chronicles his life as a ‘Punk Rocker’ whist watching the Latics as a youngster.
I can’t believe how Wigan was so big in the music scene of that era, all the mega stars of the day played at various venues throughout Wigan.
It is a great read for any football or music fan, try and get hold of a copy if you can.http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/swine/swine_aug07_14.htm
PS, Martin Tarbucks books will be getting a dusting down soon and will be read again in the run up to the new season.
7 July 2017 at 1:12 am #160288Talking about punk Claude La. The Stranglers are headlining the Saturday night at Ramsbottom Festival in September.
We went a couple of years ago when Richard Hawley Headlined.
A great day and evening out.7 July 2017 at 1:41 am #160289Sounds good, I’ll look into that, they were brilliant at Manchester a few months back.
7 July 2017 at 2:36 am #160290If you find yourself in Ramsbottom be sure to call in to the Irwell works brewery, but be careful you may find yourself enjoying the ale a bit to much and firing the Stranglers off.

12 July 2017 at 1:47 am #160361The football magazine Shoot, football cards and Elton Welsby on the Friday night TV show Kick Off.The cardboard league tables in shoot/match magazine………did anyone actually change them around after each match?
It would be a pain in the arse these days with all the different match days and times.12 July 2017 at 9:21 am #160362When the half time scores were displayed on the hoardings at the big grounds.
12 July 2017 at 12:03 pm #160363The football magazine Shoot, football cards and Elton Welsby on the Friday night TV show Kick Off.Hearing Latics name on Kick Off or any other TV program was about as rare as rocking horse shit. Celebrations all round if we were actually shown on TV.
