12 January 2017 at 1:53 am #154035As an Indian AND someone who has had an insight into the Morris world, it’s definitely not racist, but unless you know about Border Morris you could understand if uninformed people of any background get the wrong end of the stick (no pun intended).
What is wrong though is a traditional folk festivals banning it even though they know it’s not racist and normally sensible organisations like Respect saying the ban shows sensitivity when they too should know that there is no racist connotation.
What next, a black mime artist that isn’t allowed to white up?
It’s one thing to perform this at a folk festival Galatic where Border Morris is understood and another in the centre of a multicultural city such as Birmingham.
As in many of these incidents there is usually a back story. They must have been aware it could cause controversy but still went ahead which strikes me as being deliberately provocative. Social media is littered with such things having the sole intention of ruffling the feathers of xenophobic little Englanders and creating unnecessary bad feeling.12 January 2017 at 1:59 am #154036Technically the farming and subsequent slaughter of all animals is barbaric – Halal or not.The slaughter of foxes for pleasure has nothing to do with farming but is certainly barbaric.
12 January 2017 at 2:24 am #154037What you have to remember fella’s is that there is a lot of halfwits out there that will see racism every where they look. Bar Bar black sheep, black boards, Robinsons jam, what’s next Black Sabbath are a racist band.
People that see racism every where they look tend to have either a political agenda or are just fookin stupid brainwashed student’s with no life experience.

Actually, charcoaling your face ( “blacking up” ) goes back to circa 1450.

Nice one Snowy; is that Sammy that you are referring to ?
P.S hope you’re not offended that I call you Snowy :woohoo: :woohoo:19 November 2017 at 4:56 pm #163445Had to pop into Chorley yesterday lunch time. It was nice to see the “Blacked up Morris Men” dancing and raising money for Children in Need. Everyone was enjoying the spectacle and they didn’t get chased out of town. Bloody dangerous though, with those sticks; nearly had mi’eye out :woohoo:
Message for Papa: didn’t see you there. Thought this would be right up your street !
