I will admit to being a relatively new Latics fan, however, this is due to the fact that I only moved here 4 years ago from Canada. I decided I wanted to emerse myself in the culture and so I went to my first Latics match – West Brom away in our first season in the PL. (For those who don’t remember, Jimmy Bullard scored a last minute winner after we went down 1-0 in the first half.)

My experience there, and the experience I had with the real Latics supporters who surrounded me made me a fan. From that point on I made it a point to research our history and learn as much as I could about the club as I was light years behind everyone else in their knowledge of the club.

Old fans or new, some will have booed from both groups, and I couldn’t agree more – it is disgraceful! All I know is that when we went down 1-0 at West Brom that day, there were no boos. There was singing, there was cheering, and, whether we had won the game or not, everyone was there to SUPPORT our team. As far as I’m concerned, if you’re capable of booing the team you supposedly love, then you’re not fit to wear those blue and white stripes.

I’d love to see our starting 11 go to the workplaces of every booer and boo them while they work!

I 100% agree with ALL that has been said so far as well as that our ‘support’ last night was disgraceful.
Has anyone noticed that no one has admitted, on here at least, to the booing of the team at half time. Amazing that. Along with the fact that 11,000 + (Other than those who have stated otherwise) were ALL part of the 1500 that turned out every home game in the good old days of Springfield Park.

Oh & for the record it is now Wednesday & Moyes, Benitez & every other losing PREMIERSHIP manager from Saturday has not been sacked.
Keep the faith, yes Bobby is inexperienced in the prem but who cares lets enjoy the ride.

Two points. Some fans boo because of their passion for the club and a view that those wearing it aren’t doing as they should. It takes a lot to make me boo and I’ve done it perhaps twice in twenty years. I certainly wouldn’t do it after one match. Secondly, there will always be more atmosphere at an away ground, if only because a lot of the supporters are there for a day out and not just the football. Oh, a sub-point is that people want different things from a football game – some want to be singing and ch/jeering non-stop, others simply want to watch a game of football. Neither should be criticised for that.

I’d love to see our starting 11 go to the workplaces of every booer and boo them while they work!

Well, if I were paid 100 times a week what I’m on and I was not doing my job, it’s a cross I’d be happy to bear!

I must admit I was p***ed off with the result, but I would never boo the lads off, it doesn’t help anyone. My reaction after a bad performance and it would have to be bad would be not to clap, saying that I clapped the lads off last night.

Watch us stuff utd on sat now.

Yes, but compared to some performances from the past couple of seasons, last nights performance was actually very good.

We weren’t god awful. I’d vent my spleen as much as anybody if we really were crap. But we weren’t. And that’s what’s really got to me. If people who booed that off think that was bad, what did they make of Steve Bruce’s tactics?
We started off sluggish, against a team that played very high tempo. They came with a classic McCarthy game-plan of grab a goal and close shop. And it worked for them. Apart from the too rigid midfield, relying on the centre halves to start things off, I don’t think we were far wrong.

Another important thing to consider is that teams like Liverpool and United seem to struggle at times, against teams that shut up shop. Look at Liverpool V Stoke last season? Yet when they play against teams that are, dare I say, the better footballing sides, they win. I’m thinking our style will work better on Saturday against United. Does that sound daft? Perhaps it does. But with them having Ferdinand out, etc, we’ll never have a better chance.

Perhaps as well as playing attractive football, we will have to do what the likes of United do, and learn to win ‘ugly’ when necessary? Like Rooney’s goal against Birmingham. Head’s against post, hit’s rebound that fell right back to him, in. Lucky? or do they make their own luck?

We had some half decent chances last night, as well. If we’d equalized before half time, we’d have won 2-1, I reckon.

Vat spot on, and I heard a classic to last night when people sat behind me in es3 said that a wolves player was offside off a goalkick, ridiculous. As regards the performance I think we were poor but I just thought we missed someone in midfield to dictate the play and look for the ball. Brown and Thomas never looked comfortable with it.
Just changed seats from es2 this time round to es3, is anyone sat near row u seat 64? Be nice speak to someone who knows about footy instead of peopele who no nothing.

Last night, I was absolutely disgusted by the reaction of our so-called ‘supporters’. No more so, than when a large majority booed the team off at half-time. Frankly, that was appalling. Why boo? So we were losing. So we weren’t playing very well. Christ, we were still playing a damn sight better than on many occasions in the past few seasons.

In all honesty, what happened last night, has had me questioning whether or not I’ve done the right thing renewing my season ticket. I’m talking about the idiotic, fickle, arseholes I have to sit amongst, who claim to be Wigan Athletic supporters, NOT last nights performance. Deary, deary, me. I heard some absolute ‘pearlers’ last night, from people sat near me. Here’s some of them:

“I could of gone away in’t bloody caravan, rather than watch this WRLFC”

-I very nearly turned around and said “make sure you f*** off to it before Saturday, won’t you?”

Another one was “Bloody hell! We’ve gone from top o’t league, to bein reet down’t league, toneet”.

-I felt like saying “Don’t be a p***, we’ve played one bloody game!” FFS!

(BY THE WAY, THESE WERE FROM 50 YEAR OLD BLOKES!)

That’s just a couple. The most annoying thing is…….how impatient are Wiganers? Jesus tonight! The majority are still calling for the player to play the long ball, rather than bearing with a patient, deliberate, build up. One that looked so good in pre-season. But now here we are, and all the moaning b***ards are off already. It didn’t take them long.

For a while, I’ve read the comments on Mudhutsmedia, about our JCL fans, and how many ‘Whoppers’ we now have. And to be fair, I thought they were going over the top. But not now. They have it spot on. I am p***ed off already at the people who are sitting near me. If they carry on like that, I’m going to have top say something. It is RIGHT. We have so many ‘Whoppers’ in our support, it is untrue. Are we, the genuine fans, the ones who were here before all the success, the VICTIMS of our clubs success? I think so. Yes, everybody has a right to an opinion. But for christ’s sake, have a bit of patience.
Regarding last night, I don’t actually thing we played that badly. Yes, we weren’t as good as we can be, but let’s give Wolves a bit of credit. It’s not the first time a Mick McCarthy team has come and ‘done’ us, by playing a ‘high-tempo’ game, nicking a goal, and then closing shop. His Sunderland team did it to us in our promotion season, when Marcus Stewart netted early on, if you recall. (Perhaps a lot of the booers don’t remember, as they were still ‘Yoonited’ fans, in the pub, back then?)
Wolves earned their victory. We tried to comeback, but unfortunately, it didn’t happen. My only criticism of our team and performance is that I thought our midfield was too ‘rigid’. I mean, I think we needed to have a midfielder picking up the ball off the centre-halves. We didn’t do that, and were relying on Scharner and Bramble to get things moving. And neither of them are Emlyn Hughes or Franz Beckenbauer, are they? And I thought we didn’t get the ball to N’Zogbia enough. Apart from that, we weren’t that bad. Wolves closed us down very well, and were worthy of their victory. The lad Keogh, looked very good.

But to hear it, and especially this morning, we are now the worlds worst. This coming the day after I saw somebody on a forum ridiculously saying “We can make the Champions League”. Honestly. One of Paul Jewell’s favourite sayings was that the fans “Need a reality check”. He’d definitely be correct in this instance. I’ve never known anything as ridiculous, and frankly as yellow water-poor as the fans reaction to last night. Seriously, people need to calm down. In all honesty, is it any wonder that we go away and win at Villa, then lose at home to Wolves, when we have such a bunch of fickle, moaning, b***ards, at home games? In the words of another ex-Latics manager, Kenny Swain, dare I say “If you don’t f**ckin like it, don’t come again!”.

Seriously, so what? We lost a game. And people throw their toys out of the pram. What will happen when we lose a few more? And we will. I am stunned at how soon people have ‘cracked’. I know a fair few people on Mudhutsmedia, and elsewhere, long for the day when we are back playing in the lower leagues, because our support will be back to the ‘loyal’ ones, who have been going years, and all the JCL’s will have disappeared. I’d kind of got beyond that way of thinking, and was full of optimism that we could simply enjoy our time in the top flight. But after last night, I agree with them. The sooner the gobshites who have been fans for all of 3 or 4 seasons f**k off, and take their booing with them, the better. Because lets be honest, anybody who booed that last night, obviously must not remember the days of Kenny Swain or Bruce Rioch. And if you are reading this thinking “Well, I booed, and I remember the Swain and Rioch days”, then shame on you. SHAME on you.

We’ve never had it better as Latics fans, Roberto back as boss, looking to play good football, some cracking players, such as Rodallega and Gomez, a passionate and historically linked coaching staff, etc, etc. But to your average JCL, does all this matter? They’ve joined us on the back of our success. The old “I support a winning team” glory-hunter mentality.

Well if it’s winning things, and glory you are after, I suggest you f**k off to Old Trafford or Anfield, pronto. Or rather, back to your couch/pub, in front of the TV, from whence you came.

            You’ll not be missed.

A rant? No, it wasn’t a rant. I was being deadly serious. Our so-called support really yellow water me off, last night. Fickle, fickle, b****rds.

Well said Vatman, it has to be said some of our “fans” don’t deserve any credit whatsoever. Those that booed the team/Martinez the other night are almost as shameful as those who watch us from the pubs or on the net…supporters like that are just an embarrassment.
