The EFL have suspended Bury,s game on Saturday and have charged them with failing to fulfill a fixture. Bolton however still seem to have got away with it.
30 July 2019 at 12:04 pm #179881Absolutely scandalous. They already owe god knows how much. The fact they offered their players 20% of their back pay shows they are unable to service those existing debts and have only got this weekend’s one by taking out yet another loan provided by an organisation whose chairman is a Bolton supporter. If they could loan to 2 million to Bolton why couldn’t they loan anything to Bury. The stench of corruption is overwhelming.
30 July 2019 at 1:06 pm #179882Not shocked to see them get away with it and Bury not. Surely Bury will just point to Bolton if any punishment is to come for not fulfilling a fixture.
30 July 2019 at 1:08 pm #179884Not an analogous situations.
Bolton are in a mess but there is a takeover by Football Ventures on the cards, and the PFA have provided a temporary loan to see the club through the period to get that deal sorted. The EFL are satisfied, at present, that will be resolved.
Bury however have no such light at the end of the tunnel, and the owner who is an asset-stripper has not provided any evidence that the situation can be resolved. There is no hope for them and with an owner who won’t engage with the EFL they have no option. PFA will not make an open-ended loan to them.
So it’s rather unfair to compare the two situations.30 July 2019 at 1:14 pm #179885Not an analogous situations.

So it’s rather unfair to compare the two situations. Both sides have failed to fulfill a fixture GL, however one side has another 10 months in which to play it whilst the other never did. One is being charged for it, one it appears isn’t.
30 July 2019 at 1:22 pm #179886The charges are about the financial states of the clubs, not about whether a fixture was played.
30 July 2019 at 1:30 pm #179887In that case they both still need to be dealt with in terms of not fulfilling games
30 July 2019 at 1:32 pm #179888Horwich have had no punishment for not fulfilling their season last season yet. Creditors are getting 20% of what they are owed. They owe the taxman, the council and many more.
New owners obviously have little money to complete the takeover yet and the pfa with an ex Bolton player in charge lend them 2 million. Are these new incubents in a fit state to take a club over.
Why do they have to borrow? Surely assetts should be sold first, ie academy, ground etc.
The whole can of worms stinks of bias and favourtism to one of the EFLs old clubs.30 July 2019 at 1:47 pm #179890The charges are about the financial states of the clubs, not about whether a fixture was played. So why have Bury been charged with not fulfilling a fixture even before the game kicks off yet Bolton who let’s not forget refused to play their game months ago haven’t been. And their finances were in a worse state than Bury,s at the time they didn’t play the game. No takeover was in place then.
30 July 2019 at 2:04 pm #179891The whole thing is absolutely scandalous.
How the hell the EFL have let it get to into the week before the season is absolutely disgraceful.Shouldve been expelled from the league weeks ago. They must have something really big over the EFL. Theyve had more last chances than anybody, ever.
And now they are going to loan money, to pay off existing debts. In everyday life, they would be a loan sharks absolute dream. Lending money…throwing bad money after incredibly bad money? Lending Peter to pay Paul? Hmmm. Thats good.
Through not acting properly, the EFL are potentially going to cause a nightmare for everybody, when it gets to December and they are skint, rock bottom, and have no hope. Expulsion halfway through a season will impact on other clubs so much. They should have revoked their league membership before this season starts. They are in no position, financially, or physically to start the season. What if they send a team of kids to Wycombe, who hammer them seven nil? And then later in the season have a much better team by then who play Wycombe’s nearest challenger at the top, and then beat them 2-1. How is that fair? It just isnt.
I am not a bitter football supporter. I would normally never want a club to fold. But in this case, I think it would be best all round. Start again, fresh, and without all the drama, debt, and leaches hanging about. This has been going on for months now. And its scandalous its been allowed to, it really is.
I have actually started to hate them as a club now, because of what they are getting away with.
Its akin to the Police having a good search around Fred West’s house, removing all the evidence, and then packing up and shaking his hand and thanking him for helping them with their enquiries.
Scandalous.
30 July 2019 at 2:43 pm #179893So why have Bury been charged with not fulfilling a fixture even before the game kicks off
Source that they have?
Fulfilling or not fulfilling a fixture is a trivial point that will be dealt with in due course.
The issue is the much bigger one of the future viability of the clubs.
Bolton have provided some evidence it would seem. Bury’s owner has not engaged at all with the EFL.
Look, I’m not supporting either, or excusing either, but let’s get the facts right.
The key issue is the viability. Bolton have some plan, whether it will work is a moot point, but they have a plan. Bury don’t.
It’s as simple as that.30 July 2019 at 2:47 pm #179894GL,
I’m usually very much in agreement with you, as you are a voice of reason among a sea of overreaction, but in this case I’ll have to disagree. Bolton have escaped this weekend purely on the promise of future funds. They are having to take another loan out just to get Saturday’s game on.
They’ve spent the last 6 months telling everybody that the finance are in the pipeline, but this pipeline seems longer than the worlds biggest oilfields. They are stalling, playing with peoples livelihoods and they are allowed to bluff their way out of it time and again. They’ve already called one match off and not been penalised, yet poor old Bury are jumped on straight away. You say the 2 situations are different but there is so much in common in the separate instances to be judges by the same criteria.
30 July 2019 at 3:10 pm #179895Then there’s the Gordian Taylor factor. Played over 200 games for Horwich when they were Bolton.
30 July 2019 at 3:23 pm #179896If Bolton can borrow off the PFA to ensure they play on Saturday then cant Bury be afforded the same privilege. Their players after all are in the same union.
30 July 2019 at 3:53 pm #179897On Bolton’s points deduction they still have to be punished for the missed fixture last season. I suspect that the efl are waiting for the new owners to be on board before that is announced.
There is a good article on line (lion of Vienna I think) that details their financial decline. -
