Over the last month or so , i have read and heard people saying that the players should refund match ticket money , the club should refund season ticket money.
Ok , but on a pro rata basis why are the same people not offering to pay the club more when we over achieve , when we put in those performances last season against Chelsea , Liverpool and Arsenal i couldnt see any queues at the ticket office where people where offering £10 more because we played well.
24 August 2010 at 12:32 pm #43900Possibly because they’re thinking that the club still “owes” them money from the 16 garbage home performances last season that a mere 3 good performances doesn’t even things out!!!
Actually I’m being a little harsh saying that there were 16 garbage home performances last season – IMO I’d rate 10 games & 80 minutes as garbage, 5 games as fair to middleing & 3 games & 10 minutes as reet good
On that sliding scale I’d say that the club still owes!!! ;)
24 August 2010 at 12:38 pm #43901Depends really on how far you want to go back , if we take the period from when Dave Whelan took over , i would say then that we have had quite a good run of success , that is the trouble with the Whelan era fans , they have never experienced hard times , never had to dig in and actually support their team through bad patches.
In a nutshell , Whelan era fans dont know HOW to support their team.
24 August 2010 at 12:51 pm #43905I get your point – I just don’t think that anyone seriously wants or expects the club to refund their tickets when its been a poor game
When pushed most Latics fans will accept that their season tickets (& matchday prices) are the best value ones in the top flight – regardless of the dross currently being dished up
24 August 2010 at 1:00 pm #43910Yes , the current side we have are doing nothing to encourage the growth of the club , in fact i would go as far to say that Roberto and his team are undoing all the good work started by Paul Jewell and Steve Bruce to a level that will be below PJ`s starting point.
What suprises me most in this is Dave Whelans seemingly acceptance of all what is happening to the club that he has personally spent a small fortune on.
24 August 2010 at 1:26 pm #43914You do wonder where the line is for the refunds, 9-1 obviously was, 6-0 wasnt…. so we cant be far away.
When the team do well, we all buy more around the stadium and in the shop, so we do pay more. By the way if they win 6-0 next home game I will tip Whelan a couple of quid extra….
24 August 2010 at 1:39 pm #43915The 9-1 was a unique event , something that i dont envisage will ever happen again , the refund was probably more of a PR stunt than anything else.
I for one buy a season ticket with full knowledge that during the course of a season things will go wrong , admitidly , not on the scale that we have at the moment and for that reason would never shout for a ticket refund.
24 August 2010 at 1:55 pm #43916I went to Wembley in 1973 and watched Les Rigbyes team lose 2-1 to Scarborough.
We didn’t perform to our full potential that day, but Johnny Rogers scored in added time to take the match to extra time.
It cost me £3 to get on and five of us went in my Dads car, it must have cost us about £6:50 in fuel, and £1:48 for butties, pop and brews for the older ones.
We got new scarves and hats(£3 all in) for the momentous occaision, and the programme was another 15p or so.
I felt really let down as a 10 year old, and it took years to get over it.
I’m thinking of contacting the club for a refund for letting me down that day, do you think I have a case, or will I rightly be told to f**k off.Refunds for bad performances?????…. Get real.
If you are a true supporter of our beloved club you take the rough with the smooth and move on to the next match.
Better times will be around the corner whether its in the PL, Championship or lower.
Who gives a F**K, we are supposed to be fans, and fans support their club no matter what level they play at.
C’mon, put your efforts into supporting the club instead of contantly slagging them off.COME ON WIGAN

You say that 9-1 was unique and you wouldn’t envisage seeing that happen again ??? did Chelsea not tonk us 8-0 after that ! Add to that 6-0 from Sat and thats 14-0 over the last 2 meetings ! I thought 10-0 over 2 meetings with Utd was bad enough ! I dont condone asking for refunds by the way ! The other point I would like to make is that prior to the Whelan era we didnt have foreign mercenaries using the club as a stepping stone did we ! In Fact that has only just started since we moved into the prem which says it all really about a league that is supposed to be the best football league in the World but is actually slowly killing the game. The likes of Bill Shankly will be turning in their graves !!
24 August 2010 at 3:35 pm #43922Yes we did get tonked 8-0 but i still cant see any team clicking like Spurs did that day , everything Defoe hit found the net.
As for ticket refunds i agree that no-one should even think about it , as a supporter ( are fans (fanatics ) and supporters two different things ? ) of WAFC the only thing to think about is the growth and success of the club.
That said , i cant think of a worse run of results in the whole history of the club , i have no doubt this period will sort out the men from the boys in our fanbase.

To be fair the 1973 experience has levelled your expectations for supporting Wigan !
And I am being a little contradictory for the sake of arguments, I have suffered enough travelling for years to see home games from scotland.
Just an interesting point that they see 9-1 as a refund, and 6-0 that isnt.
24 August 2010 at 4:27 pm #43930The 9-1 was seen as a one off at the time , the refunds were given as a PR stunt as i said previously , if they had known that the the big defeats would continue then they might have thought again about setting a precident.

24 August 2010 at 4:35 pm #43937Indeed Griff , but would you ever think about demanding a refund?
