All variants are a shortening of athletic, which is what my grandad used to call us, my dad used latics and my brother says tics, a couple more generations and we will be just the l’s….!

Is their nickname not a play on the word Haddock gl? I’m sure I’ve seen it somewhere that it comes from the said fish. Maybe fishing boats sailed from the area many moons ago. Strange term though.
I refer to the club as the Latics, but fellow supporters as Ticmen, so not really bothered if we are called the Latics or Tics, there’s a lad that calls us the Watics mind you he does have a wisp.
