Bit of ‘retro’ appeal, as we played them in the 5th Round, during our best ever F.A. Cup run in 1986-87.

Curiously enough, (as Motty would say) the Latics won 3-0 on that occasion, with goals from David Lowe, Chris Thompson, and Bobby Campbell.
I remember everybody in the crowd being puzzled that day, when Hull manager Brian Horton (their assistant manager now) subsitituted flame-haired midfielder Billy Askew, as he had been the best player on the park.

Similar result this time would be more than welcome.

I’ve got this feeling that we are going on a good cup run this season. I don’t think Bobby will juggle the team around that much as in his words “they are still getting used to his system and each other”

Brown on the other hand will deffo be focussed on survival and we might see him sending some fringe players.

Well he jiggled in the Carling Cup (our best chance of a trophy)

What makes the FA cup harder to win than the Carling cup? The fact that Forrest Green ande Staines are in it??

The fact that the top clubs take it serious.

I think we can have a good run, as well.

We have shown that, on our day, we can beat anybody, and I genuinely think we can go on a cup run.

It will make things easier if we can pick up a few more points before the New Year. We’re on 17 now, so if we can get to 20+ points, it makes things all that more relaxed. We’ll get United out of the way in December, that will be them done with, league-wise, for the season. The Birmingham, Bolton, and Blackburn games are all very winnable. Even if we don’t pick any other points up, if we win those 3 games, we’ll be on 26 points. I now think we’ll end up with around 50 points, safe, but in a kind of neither here or there, position.

Underachieving? Yes. But for a season of Roberto settling in, it’ll do.

In the Fans Forum he said he would be putting out a team that would be capable of competing and winning the game. Cup games are an ideal way of getting the fringe and Youth players a run out to see what they can do under game situations and pressure.

FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that

the admission price will be interesting.

Good point Alansmith…..I hope the club realise our turn outs in cups are generally appalling (along with alot of other clubs these days)…. I hope they set the tickets at no more than a tenner for adults and five snots for concessions…with even a little discount for ST holders on top of that, or a pound a friend deal again.

Its a crappy draw for us this, and also for Hull so the club need to try and get some arses on seats to get behind the lads.

I hope we get someone like Nob End away in the next round

for three games thousands have paid £1. the people who haven’t are ST holders, who have paid £13/15. so ST holders should get in the cup game for £1……….or free. and other tickets should be £13/15

                              I think that’s a good idea.

The one thing that has puzzled me about the deal where the S/T holder can bring a friend for £1 deal is, most S/T holders are surrounded by other S/T holders. So if you took somebody with you, they wouldn’t be able to sit next to you.

This is definitely a prime opportunity to repay season ticket holders for coughing up their money in the pre-season. I’d have to think hard whether to go or not, if they made it full-price. I think they need to do something special with the prices as a lot will be skint over Christmas and New Year.

Can’t see them making it £1 though. Probably £5. (Kids £1)

As you all know i sent in a Dossier of ideas that i collated from the fans a lot of which are now being used by the club (although they say these ideas were already planned).

Now as a season ticket holder i understand why people are peeved with the offers but i used mine and other tickets i got to let a few friends that this year have been unable to get season tickets (because of being unemployed), the chance to see the team. So i dont feel like ive missed out although it would be nice for all the season ticket holders to get a xmas card or calender in the post (even a invite to a open day)….but thats not going to happen!

For those that dont know in the Fa cup the money from tickets are split 50/50 with the other club after costs are taken out. This gives 2 prem clubs like us a chance to show what the fans actually mean. Personally if i was chairman i would make it £1 tickets for season ticket holders and £5 each for non season ticket holders. This includes Hull fans. Then id make the south stand free for Kids if accompinied with a adult. Neither club needs the money and after costs the money could be split 50/50 between a charity in Hull and a charity in Wigan! The press it would generate would be fantastic and even in Whelans eyes having the “DW” stadium mentioned all over the world would be a fantastic boost for his business!

Now another idea for the club would be to offer the wings of the west and east (apart from ES1) to unemployed/pensioners season tickets at a reduced rate of say £99 on a first come first served basis. They always seem to be empty and the views arent great so by doing this they would be filling up the stands, gaining extra income and generating good press. In my opinion they wouldnt lose any current season ticket holders as not many would want to move from there seat and it would give people who are laid off a chance to still support the team!

The last paragraph sounds a cracking idea Faz.

The only thing I’d be worried about is we could do all these things for the FA cup game, the Wigan Public still wouldn’t bother there arses and all that good publicity turns into bad when we still only get 15k on! It’s cold in January you know!
