So what if he did? You can’t go round accusing people of things because someone else is. It’s exactly that sort of attitude that causes Daily Mail readers to hurl around stereotypes that are insulting.
Is this Chris Manning chap involved in football or Bolton in any way? If not and therefore is not governed by any football jurisdiction what are you expecting to happen if you complain?
No but he’s governed by laws of the land that prevent libel, and his club would ban him if he shouted illegal abuse at a match.

As an individual you couldn’t sue for libel or defamation from that article – Dave Whelan & Malky Mckay could try as they are individually named but as a Wigan Athletic fan I’m pretty certain you couldn’t although the supporters club might have more ability toAside from that, I think the writer could also justifiably point out that “Town full of p***s” & other such delights are sung by significant section of the Latics faithful at Latics v Bolton games and the fact that the club had to issue a statement only last week reminding all fans that the use of offensive language etc.. was illegal, as grounds for making such a statement regardless of whether you, me or anyone else on here chanted it

I am amazed at the hypocrisy. Whelan is being defended on here for making stupid, ill conceived, insulting and dated comments when trying to make light of the pretty untasteful texts Mackay sent yet, when it’s thrown back at them in a very tongue-in-cheek way those same people scream, out of order.

Precisely. And our current accuser was one of those who was particularly quick to defend Whelan’s words and tell every one else to get off the PC bandwagon, if I recall correctly. Different now the shoe’s on the other foot. But I was waiting for someone else to point that out.
