With out getting too carried away I think todays performance was the best all round performance I have seen from a Latics team for quite a while.
Everyone played well and we looked solid throughout.
I gave Michael Jacobs loads of stick last season, but fair play to him he was outstanding today and was my Man of the Match.
If we play with that tempo and with the same attacking formation, no team in this league will be able to live with us.
I know its early days but it is looking good, well done to Paul Cook and the team today, keep up the good work.13 August 2017 at 10:28 pm #161175Powell morsy and burn crucial we need that transfer window closed they are the backbone to the team.
Our squad is complete and no need to sign any more.13 August 2017 at 10:33 pm #161176Powell morsy and burn crucial we need that transfer window closed they are the backbone to the team.

13 August 2017 at 10:44 pm #161179That’s exactly how they played last week at MK Dons. I think Cooky will play the same way home and away and not get too worked up about the opposition. I like the way it was left back out suspended left back in. None of this making 3-4 changes to cover one man out. We look so organised from the off, the balance of the team is right and I like the way we celebrate a goal. All outfield players gather in a huddle. The bonding session abroad seems to have worked despite some moaners on here being critical of what Cooky had done. We’ve hit the ground running but it’s a marathon not a sprint. I agree with the comment that this is the best looking squad for years, I would say it’s the best since being relegated from the Prem. Interestingly, would Bogle or Power get in this team?
From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!13 August 2017 at 10:51 pm #161180Interestingly, would Bogle or Power get in this team?Probably not JR. I for one was very impressed with lee evans, who looks like a better version of max power.

I don’t understand the Bogle situation, as I can’t see a lot of difference between Toney and Bogle apart from Toney tending to stay on side, so Bogle would probably get a match if Toney wasn’t here.
I think Power has shot himself in the foot. Evans looks far superior to Max, and for me, Power isn’t good enough to displace any of our League One midfielders let alone walk into a Championship midfield.

For me Toney wins a lot more in the air, and doesn’t moan as much.
as well as staying onside.

It must be a management thing as he seemed to play with the freedom to get forward and attack instead of last seasons backwards and sideways tactics. As I said earlier he was my MotM today.
How’s the bottle of ‘red’ tasting tonight?

Bloody marvellous; What a difference a win makes.
14 August 2017 at 12:34 am #161195Really good performance and lovely to see them trounce a fairly decent side By four goals ,brilliant start to the season.
Liked the shape of the team and getting the transfer business done early on has helped cooky get the bonded into a solid unit with even Powell playing his heart out and he was easily the man of the match for me today.14 August 2017 at 3:16 am #161206Jacobs looked back to his best, today. Probably more the level we are playing at.
14 August 2017 at 3:52 am #161208Everything so much better. Could even see a difference in the warm up!
Playing attacking football…going forward at any opportunity and going at the opposition. New additions all showing their worth today. Thought Toney lead the line superbly..some great flick ons and hold up play. Evans in midfield was superb…he and Morsy a great midfield pairing.
Great performance.

14 August 2017 at 4:19 am #161210God that was refreshing after seeing some of the tripe that’s been dished up since dropping out the Prem.
For me, the energy, desire and superb fitness levels stood out plus straight forward simple passing football was a joy to watch.
I hope we can keep hold of all the key players the likes of D.Burn and Powell because we will find it impossible to replace them.
I did hear from someone within the players that Cook has the full backing and support of the vast majority of his players so Power and Bogle must have crossed the line.
The one thing that makes me happy about today’s performance is, actually seeing players giving 100% in a Latics shirt and actually looking like they care if we lose or not, makes me proud again, if they show they care fans will follow suit and back them to the hilt, onwards and hopefully upwards I say, well done to the Tics -
