15 January 2011 at 4:29 am #55526Ok in reply to griff all i can say is
Standish i read and read what you say repeatedly about our club and Whelan and finances e.t.c and you are 110% correct, Iv’e never disagreed with you on that. We need someone who is prepared to not expect every soul in Wigan not to bow down to their knees and tell the fans they don’t deserve a football team. Maybe a bit hypocritical of me i know as i don’t like going any more and he is referring to the likes of me. Im 25 and don’t profess to having been around and seen it, done it e.t.c but have been watching football and following Latics for as long as i can remember so i would at least consider myself to have a good knowledge of it all after about 20 years of it. I love football and always have but mainly now more so the lower league standard.
Now with the way football is now and the way money controls it now i understand that clubs have to do what they can to carry on, But we are a premiership club not a Hereford United or a Barnet e.t.c. If we were never going to be able to compete in this league then why bother getting here. The fans i don’t believe get anything out of it, Im pretty sure 90% don’t enjoy it. Who wants to go to watch their club hoping for 17th every year. Blackpool don’t, Stoke don’t, Fulham don’t, Get my drift. They have REAL ambition, Not the fabricated ambition that Whelan talks about, What he really means is how much money he can make. Another lie to the fans, Going for Europe next season blah blah blah. There must be hundreds of millionaires in Wigan alone who would love the chance to change things a bit. Maybe not at this level but sustainability and ambition have been done now. How much money do they need exactly to sustain themselves. Where has all the money gone that we have earned since we got to the prem. None of it has been re-invested in the club, Not so much as an academy which by now would have been flourishing a lot more than crack pot panic buys. Dave Whelan has always been good atone thing, Making money out of business transactions. He bought us in div 3 and said they will get to the prem, Another business opportunity for him, Spend a few million and make a mint at the end of it. If he was really bothered about us being here then why not make a few good loan signings at least to try and keep us here then start all the seasonal crap about building again next season. Cost him about 2to 3m in wages to really bolster this team up and push out of where we lie now.He could let Figeuroa go and spend his transfer fee on 4 or 5 loans.
He can spout about how we don’t deserve a club all he wants but i never complained when i stood on Springy Park and got a plum tie in the cup. That was real excitement. He thinks we all owe him something and in some ways we do but i would say that the town has already shown it’s gratitude for him. You can’t sell your best players every year and expect people to just come back for the fun of it, You just can’t do it. Not when you replace them with crap and personally talk them up for a transfer. If a big team came in for them i would sell. Thanks Dave that makes me really want to keep turning up that does. Unprofessional. Expect everyone to turn up in December and January and he goes to Barbados every year when he is supposed to be running a club. Unprofessional. No other chairman in the land does that.
To sum up Standish, We need to get somebody involved who wants the club to do well and is honest about the goings on with the club. Doesn’t have to be multi-rich, Just committed and willing enough to be truthful about where the money goes every year. The invisible warchest, another lie. Jewells firs season, he can have all the promotion money and he will double it. Tosh. I will take the players to Barbados for a holiday if we get promoted. Tosh. He had them training schools out there. Bumming the Barbadian government giving them something for free for future hospitality. We do not need to be another Cardiff e.t.c, Just a normal running, functional club like Barnsley, Bristol City, Swansea. They aren’t premiership clubs i know, But neither are we.
15 January 2011 at 11:43 am #55534Blackburn- Santa Cruz- is more injury prone than our own Steve Macmillan was. He’s overweight and no match fitness.
Brummy- Robbie keane??? A legend in his own mind and totally over rated. A pish poor Peter Crouch is keeping him out the spurs team.
Kenny Feckin Miller??- not another attempt at making it in the prem league. Not good enough for scottish football never mind the EPL
Wet Spam- Wayne Bridge- can’t defend for peanuts, I remember a certain Gary Teale ripping him to shreds when he was on loan at Fulham a few years back.
Fulham – Steve Sidwell – A poor man’s Ben Watson
I think all 5 players you have mentioned would be an improvement on our squad
15 January 2011 at 11:56 am #55536I agree with you Mr Faith. However, they would also, in my opinion, be wanting more in wages than we would/could/should pay.
15 January 2011 at 12:05 pm #55537Sorry Yosser, there is NOT a queue of millionaires in Wigan, certainly not with the 300 million that Whelan has, coming forward to make an offer to buy it off him.
In his book, Whelan says he would turn the debt the club owes him into equity in the club. If he did that, that would kill stone dead any idea that he is making money out of the club.

Yes playing at the standard they reached 4-5 seasons ago. You have to think of how they are likely to perform now not what they did years ago.
It’s the very same principal that got me saying to myself “for gods sake Bobby don’t bring Jason Roberts back”.Bentley apart, I personally wouldn’t have none of those players, I’d be more excited by an unknown foreign signing who may turn out to be another Valencia, Palacios or Rodders. Alright they may turn out to be a Aggahowa [Sp], but if you don’t take chances you don’t win nowt. :o
From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!15 January 2011 at 3:19 pm #55546As you know VAT we wont win another game. The hell on earth that is April will see us adrift by ten points as you have predicted! Why do we even bother playing? Its just a formality that we will be relegated eh VAT. I mean some people are just so blinkered!

and yes, I know you were being sarcastic. But how you can be sarcastic after we’ve played a fellow struggler today, Fulham, and they looked far better and neater than us, is beyond me. Did you go?
16 January 2011 at 12:39 am #55600Of course. Good to see us climb out of the relegation zone! A draw was a fair result take it all round. Both teams had chances. We were unlucky to hit the woodwork twice and Hugo could have had a hat trick but at the other end Al Habsi kept us in it at times. Fulham are a much better team than their position suggests and wont be near the relegation zone by the end of the term.
