I’m no big fan of Coyle myself, but yet again this board seems awash with tactical geniuses who criticise but seem to offer no real alternative.

Other than the usual “play two up front” old chestnut.

Hold on, you slagged off Holt without offering up any real alternative ;) :P :P

Now that our 2 recognized forwards are back playing why doesn’t he drop Powell into an attacking midfield role he much prefers to play ??, his work rate closing things down and his attacking ability from the middle would be far more beneficial to the whole team rather than playing the role of a forward which he clearly doesn’t like.

The alternative is not to play him. I commend the attempt to defend him in your previous post TL and there’s no argument that he did well at Norwich but he just doesn’t even look like a football player.

I realise that Gomez is one of those players who you either love him or hate him.

I always start afresh with him each game he plays, ignoring the previous one cos when hes good he’s good and when hes bad he’s woeful. The boy has got real talent, but today’s game is not just about being good at one or two things, you have to be able to contribute all over the pitch.
I remember during the Maribo game the little bearded guy who came on for um positioned himself in the box when we had a corner. I remember thinking how daft does that look. Needless to say he headed the ball clear.

On Wednesday Gomez’s own players were having a go at him for not tracking back and trying to play himself out of trouble just outside our box.

Now that’s not numpties having a go at him, that’s his own team mates. I would give him about 5 out of 10 on Wednesday, he did have a shot whizz just wide, but then he did shirk out of a few tackles got caught 2 or 3 times in possession and “didn’t track back very well”.

IMHO his game has improved this season and he has probably put more tackles in than he has over the past 4-5 seasons. :woohoo:

I was referring to his playing of players out of their natural positions ! I certainly dont profess to being a tactical genius as you say but I know when something isn’t quite working and I know when players look uncomfortable in an alien role to them !

I’ve always been in the pro-Gomez camp , but asking him to play out wide and to repeatedly track back against a full back who’s looking to bomb forward at every opportunity is simply not going to end well.

I felt even more sorry for him on Wednesday when he had to take the 3 corners in quick succession – one on the left , one on the right , one on the left! Hopefully if it had gone out again on the right we’d have subbed him to prevent any further suffering.

why do we have to rotate the squad so much, play the best eleven and build a winning mentality. Then players coming in will want to stay in and try harder.

                    And the best eleven are?

Any mix of 11 players from the squad, but playing in their right position.

No doubt about it, two very poor teams on weds. You wouldn’t think most of them players on the pitch were playing premiership football last season.
Coyle is to blame for these poor performances. There was no shape or organisation to that formation, we were all over the place for large parts of the first half. A better team than Qpr would have gone home with all 3 points.

Lucky that on paper and in the table QPR are better than us that we held them to a draw when we had the better chances compared to them for all their possesion they had they did feck aw with it
