Salford got to agree with the subs

gomez only midfielder getting on the ball
mcamanaman had beating of full back as opposed to mclean
powell looked a threat when dropped deeper

Powell said he felt off the pace so maybe that’s why he was brought off

        #121239

That’s fair enough. He should get another chance next Tuesday – in what position I don’t know.

          I’d go with:

Nicholls (really want to see him given a chance)

          Shotton Perch Barnett Crainey

          McManaman Powell Gomez McArthur McClean

Fortune (our only option so no choice really unless we play Callum upfront)

I think Coyle’s going to wrap Fortune in cotton wool, so I expect another surprise.

But who knows? It could be McManaman, Dicko or even Shotton.

This is a real tough one, but my overriding feeling is that it was a magical day spoilt by the football.

Yes, the conditions were torrid and yes we have bigger priorities, and yes a point and a clean sheet are, on reflection, a good outcome. But, as fans we paid a lot of money to travel and watch our team compete, and just like Bob in the early stages of the domestic cups I feel we have been disrespected.

Most folks I spoke to were bitterly disappointed – not by the result, nor the players, but the manner in which Coyle approached the game. In the 2 or 3 moments we actually played football we were great, but to only bring on a “creative” midfielder and a bona fide striker with 23 min to go was frustrating to say the least.

We have one fit striker – hence why Powell was played. Bringing Fortune on was a clear indication that Coyle wanted the game won.

As for a ‘creative’ midfielder..who, Watson? Gomez started and he is by far our most creative midfielder.

We have a squad and it is going to be used.

What’s Dicko then if not a striker? And Gomez is creative but not in conditions like those, plus he doesn’t control a midfield which was what was missing. And I’m all for having a squad and using it, but not just to make up numbers.

I agree that it’s a great point, mainly because we were lucky not to lose by the skin of our teeth, giving the ball away like school kids & last ditch lucky defending was what I saw, 1 meaningful attempt at goal in the second half, I don’t want to slag the performance off but each game leaves me with more concerns although it’s difficult to say how good or bad Zulte are .

Nail on the head ! Fans being whipped up into a European frenzy when the evidence of very sloppy play was there for all to see again ! Concerned? You should be ! :S[/quote]

Ffs. We shouldnt expect anything in Europe. Anything was a bonus. Entertaining game and we could have won it late on if we had a bit of luck in front of goal.

Take a reality check. Little wigan rubbing shoulders in europe… lool how far we have come

We shouldn’t expect anything in Europe, why ?

Now we’ve played once in Europe do u suggest we withdraw from the competition to ensure no injuries ?

Nope we should give it a go but not expect to be milan circa 1990’s.

New wigan fans seem to expect to win everything, when reality suggests that we are punching well above our weight…

For me the game was always secondary to this momentous “Latics” occasion of our first ever competitive game in Europe. You had to be there to savour 2 fantastic days in our history, Worth every penny ( or Euro ) that was spent ! Those memories will last a long time ! Thanks Little Wigan !!!!!!!!!!!!

Well seeing as Zulte Waregem are ranked 172 in the European club rankings and Wigan are joint 100th I would say that we were definitely not punching above our weight the other night !

Who cares about the result (though a hard fought draw at a club that finished 2nd to Anderlecht last year is hardly a diagrace). What a belting few days. Brugge an absolute stunning City, great ale, top food and fantastic to see so many old faces making the visit. Was like being in the brick, the Springfield and the supporters club at Springy on foreign soil at one point Thursday afternoon. Supporters (with one or two drunken exceptions) a credit to the club and everyone on the ferry was made up with their trip on the way back. Felt like i was dreaming watching our beloved team play European football. Bring on Maribor!
