Why has he started to punch the ball instead of catch it like he did when he first got into the side??? Must be following the Al Habsi Goalkeeping manual B)
Keepers efforts for first goal was horrendous, so nonchalant it’s hardly believable.
I think Martinez has a decision now on the first choice keeper for rest of season. Leave the new kid in or bring back al habsi. To be honest I think the spell out of team will have done al habsi some good and given his experience of the relegation battle of the last two years I think that is the defining thing for me so would bring him back.
I too would get Ali back in. Robles looks dodgier by the week. Awful first goal and weak second. Didnt have a blinder at West Ham either.
Nah, it was Figueroa who was at fault, playing it back to him. And to be fair, credit to Bale for charging it down.
Al Habsi’s main fault is his distribution. His kicking is poor and although he’s a good shot stopper, he does flap a few straight out into dangerous areas.
I think we have two fairly decent keeper. The problem is at the moment, we’re struggling to field a solid defence in front of either of them, due to injury. The only genuine centre half we had plating today, was Scharner
I can’t seriously believe people want Al Habsi back in after his dire season.
Robles distribution is so good it’s like having an extra outfield player to create attacks. Al Habsi concedes a throwing nearly every time and can’t catch.
Robles double stop in injury time was superb. The 1st goal was Figueroa’s fault, should never have passed it back. The second as well as not being a free kick, was a very fortuitous goal, bounced off Boyce after Bale’s air kick sending Robles the wrong way and he couldn’t get across enough.
Robles was very unfortunate but has been very impressive in the games he’s played.

Robles stop in injury time was not superb. He should’ve caught the first one end of. That said I’ve really liked him up until the last couple of games. Looked very nervous today, punched when he should’ve caught more than once.
Ali is our keeper and Robles will be off in a few games never to be seen again in all probability. The reason we have stayed up in previous years is down to Ali and a few games where he wasn’t at his best behind a defence lacking confidence doesn’t make him a bad keeper. It’s easy to blame Figs for first goal but I didn’t see Joel telling him to get rid and the way he tried to clear it was lazy. The second went straight through him and he flaps a fair bit at shots straight at him as could be seen yesterday. I would agree his distribution appears better but he ain’t as good a shot stopper as Ali from what I have seen.
I’m in two minds about Robles, as previously said on here, should catch instead of punching, and that first goal was ridiculous on both his and figs part. Then in the same game his distribution was top drawer and why has no-one mentioned his double save when defoe turned our entire defence?
It’s good that Martinez has a choice of keepers. Either can do a respectable job. I too think Al Habsi will come back for the final.
The question now is Who will replace Figueroa?
Martinez could play three at the back with Boyce, Scharner and Caldwell – or perhaps Golobart when he returns. Stam could come in at Right Wing Back.
Or he could play two full backs, as he did yesterday. He ended with Stam and Beausejour – with Boyce and Scharner in the centre. Boyce is a more natural right back, but we seem short of options at left back.
Our choices are limited. I don’t see Beausejour as a left back, and I’m not sure that Stam and McManaman would make a good pair on the right, though they both turned in good performances yesterday.
