Today’s Mirror,asking for trouble Bobby.
manager Roberto Martinez will put his job on the line and defy his chairman this season.
Dave Whelan has urged Martinez to adopt a more pragmatic style of football to keep Wigan in the Premier League. But the Spaniard insists he has no intention of compromising his purist principles, even if it brings about his downfall.
Martinez, whose men lost 9-1 at Tottenham and 8-0 at Chelsea last season, said: “Football is a matter of opinions, but I’m very stubborn in my ways and I would rather die on my feet than walk on my knees. I’m very clear in what I want to do and the way I want to play and I will never change that. But the chairman’s opinion is something I will always listen to.”
Whelan said: “Roberto wants to play a certain type of football, but sometimes it doesn’t get success.” Martinez acknowledges Whelan’s experience and understanding. He said: “I have never had any interference from the chairman.

Griff, can I just ask you why you always try and come across as ‘Mr Superior’ on here? Do you have a high opinion of yourself?
You’d actually be quite surprised is you actually knew me. I took an I.Q. test, set by MENSA about a year and half ago, and I scored 140. I would say that is a pretty good score, wouldn’t you? It is.
I know a hell of a lot of facts and information, some of which is useful, some of which is daft, some of which is just plain ‘anorak-ish’. I am the man to know in pub quizzes!
Specialist subjects: Geography, Rock and Roll music, WW2, The Holocaust
And football.Yes, football. The game that links you and I. My factual knowledge really knows no bounds, and I have a particular interest in Eastern European/Communist football. In fact, I have just re-read the book ‘Dynamo- Defending The Honour Of Kiev’, which tells the story of Dynamo Kiev, and the fact that a team made up of their players, played a German Luftwaffe side during the war, and the fact that members of the Ukranian team were executed for simply beating and embarrassing the Germans. It’s a good book.
So please, whatever you do, don’t refer to me as ‘special’, as you do not know me, and have never even met me. I thank you.

No….not when it wasn’t called for.
Hadn’t been on in days, I log-in and find snidey remarks in my direction.
That’s just not cricket. I felt it was rather immature of you, considering your age.

I thought it was quite a good play on words, myself. So would you have, if you had thought of it yourself.Chill. There was nothing snidey. No wonder people call you schizo
20 July 2010 at 12:57 pm #40394“Planet Schizo”?
A bit harsh. Admittedly, I can be a right moody sod, and somedays I feel ‘buzzin’, whilst other days I just can’t be arsed. But Schitzo? No, not really.
I just fail to see the play on words in the ‘rag week’ comment. I never went to Uni, really because I didn’t want to. I’d had enough of study after school and then 3 years at college, 2 of which were spent in the pub. My mates went and got degrees. One is working nights for Asda, one has a bog-standard office job, and one totally re-trained and became a primary teacher. I don’t regret not going.
To be honest, I don’t really come on here too much these days, because of snidey remarks, even if I post something positive. Whether it’s just a case of people not being able to see beyond ‘past spat’s’, or whether it is just childishness on their behalf, I don’t know. I can’t really be bothered with the spat’s and falling out, these days.
Griff, we’re both old enough to see beyond all the shyte that get’s spouted. Both of us have our own families, and all that comes with it. I find it all a little boring, these days. If you’re 16-25 and have nothing else in your life, it must give you the buzz it once gave me, but these days I find it all a bit boring. The arguing, the transfer talk, etc. It just seems so unimportant, once you have a family, and all that. I still love Latics, and obviously think about football a lot. But I just can’t be bothered falling out about it. It’s a bunch of (vastly) overpaid blokes kicking a ball about.***I actually am really looking forward to this season, and think we can get off to a flier in the opening game.
Believe it or not, Griff, I am chilled. I always am. ;)
***Have to say, the England players will get some stick off me, this season. Starting at the Chelsea game.

For rag week, read:-
The reds are at home
The Japanese flag’s flying
She’s go the painters in
You’ll have’t go up wrong ‘un
Time of the month
