Whoever is in control of transfers needs a career change and quick coz they are shite. We know what Pompey want for Lowe and we won’t meet their asking price so why are we pursuing it. Same with Hugill who is going to QPR on loan. We know our budget and limits and we know we have trouble attracting players so why are we chasing players who see us as a move backwards. Go after reasonable targets ffs and stop pissing about. None of this is helping Cookie.
28 July 2019 at 12:53 am #179827Who honestly knows what’s going on? It was reported at the start of the week that we’d pulled out of the Hugill chase.
If we think Lowe is overvalued then what’s to gain from paying over the odds? Maybe we have pulled out who knows.
There’ll be loads of stuff going on that we’ll never know about and that’s how it should be.
28 July 2019 at 1:47 am #179831Is Lowe so amazing? Is there a queue of clubs in line pushing to sign him?
28 July 2019 at 4:21 am #179833Hey guys you are spending too much time on newsnow! Its all just hearsay until it happens. Jamal Lowe is no better than Massey. Let’s see what happens next week, I’m sure PC has a forward lined up but let’s hope its not a winger who has played most of his games in non league football or a forward who has flopped in the Prem league and thinks he’s a world beater.

What a journey!28 July 2019 at 6:09 am #179834We know what Pompey want for Lowe
Do we? Or do we know what Pompey are publicly saying they want in thr hope (a) of appeasing their fans, and (b) hoping that the offer price will increase.
Standard negotiation tactics in any form of business.
The staff looking after our transfers are not bumbling idiots like you seem to think, and if they believed what Pompey are saying is the only amount they’ll accept then they wouldn’t bother (if they are that is – who nows for sure?).29 July 2019 at 1:45 pm #1798545 days to go and unless the club surprise us with a few unexpected signings then this transfer windows dealings have been pitiful. The Lowe pantomime drags on,still no goalscorer or Powell replacement (difficult I know) .Last season was gut charmingly difficult, and everyone accepted we need to recruit well or it will be repeated.

29 July 2019 at 4:01 pm #179857IEC have certainly put their money where their mouth is!They certainly have. £1 million per month to balance the books. Big screen installed. New academy purchased to improve the flow of young players that they always insisted was their MO for the future.

Cooks hand will be forced to play the young men from the Academy due to our poor summer transfer dealings. Some might not be ready granted so they’ll have to learn quick. Its football not rocket science, some read into the game far too much. I say give them the chance and they’ll prove those doubters wrong.
Thier energy, enthusiasm, love for the club been home grown and the will to learn quick and prove that they can infact handle it will see them through.I’m personally looking forward to this season and seen some of the academy players getting game time.
If the scenario came up, would you prefer Clarke coming back or Lang up front ? I know which way I’d go29 July 2019 at 5:20 pm #179859So if we struggle and have to endure a relegation scrap who will be in the firing line. Coz I know poor old Cookie will be carrying the can for this transfer window. It won’t be the board or IEC who gets destroyed on here.
29 July 2019 at 5:28 pm #179860I’ll shout this so you can hear me. THE TRANSFER WINDOW STILL HAS 10 OR SO DAYS TO GO. NOTHING STARTS HAPPENING PROPER IN THE LOWER LEAGUES UNTIL THE PREMIER LEAGUE CLUBS HAVE SORTED THEMSELVES OUT. ONCE THEY ARE MORE OR LESS SORTED WITH WHO THEY WANT TO KEEP, GET RID OF OR GO OUT ON LOAN, THEN THE REST OF THE LEAGUE CAN PICK OFF THE SCRAPS. IT HAPPENS EVERY TRANSFER WINDOW SO SHOULD THINK YOU WOULD ALL BE USED TO IT BY NOW.
As for the Lowe situation, why is it a farce?, Wigan offered an amount of money, Pompy want more. Isn’t it great that our club will not be held to ransome for a player that might not be good enough for the championship. This has been the case for Hugill and Gallagher. Just forget about Lowe we have better players in that position already.
I’m glad that some of you are not running our club or we would be in the same position as Noblot. From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!29 July 2019 at 7:09 pm #179861You’ll soon be shouting
THE TRANSFER WINDOW HAS STILL 10 MINUTES TO GO…….
Ah right so were only in the market for Prem players ? The same ones we cant afford their 30_50k a week ?.Weres those astute scouts from years gone by that could pick a bargain from abroad ?. You need help with your Prem player fixation its blinding your thought pattern on what we can attract and what we can afford.
The only players we’ll get will be young prem Academy players that come with a stupid over inflated price tag made up by fatcat agents or an older player at the end of his career who’s
simply looking for a 2 year deal and on top dollar so he can see his final footballing days out and he doesnt give a flyer.
Barring James weve have lots of young lads from Prem clubs and most have been pish poor average to say the least. We need to dip are too elsewhere and take a chance on up and coming lower league players. Preston have managed to do it quite well with 1 or 2 from the Irish leagues. If were going to try and move forward and sustain a place in the Championship while maintaining a steady financial ship then I’m afraid throwing 40k to a Hugill would have been a huge step backwards and set a wage president for the agents and future signings.
Get these young lads in with a couple of loans and give it a go I say.29 July 2019 at 7:34 pm #179862For every bargain abroad we’ve had I’ll give you a flop we’ve had from abroad.
Do you think any decent foreign players want to come to Wigan a bottom of the Championship come league one team the past 5 or 6 years. They will break a leg to sign for a Prem side or at least a championship club of the stature of say West Brom. The two lads from Benfica chose Forrest over us, they obviously looked at where they finished last season and what wages they can afford.
So what type of player do you think we can attract in this country if its not a Robinson type or should I say a Reece James type. I’m only trying to explain what the window is like these days and what its been like for years. We will probably lose Massey on the last day to a Championship team who can offer him more wages and pay a transfer fee that we can’t refuse as per Will Grigg.
Things like this will happen and we could end up with a Leon Clarke type player, unfortunately that’s where we are as a club. From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!29 July 2019 at 8:19 pm #179863Well done lads….2 great posts,I can really feel the season is upon us and may battle commence!!!
29 July 2019 at 8:35 pm #179864A big screen, the soccer dome full of kids and 2 17 year olds who have played an hour or two of men’s football won’t be enough to keep us up unless we strengthen. As talented as some of these lads are its not fair to put loads of expectation on them.
