I never stated that it was the decline in our support.
I said that we have lost a lot of fans because we have lost our heritage (english roots) and our Enlish flare (heart, passion).
Look at Leeds at Man u They played with heart and got a result.

Then maybe we agree on more than we thought, but for me flare = skill. The kind of skill we see now from Nzogbia and that Koumas is capable of, but we rarely see.
I can’t think of too many English players with this definition of flare that have played for us.
I can think of English players that had heart and passion (Bullard, Heskey, Jackson, etc.), but I can also think of just as many foreign players (de Zeeuw, Scharner, Filan, etc.), so whilst the current crop may not be showing much fight, passion or desire I can’t agree that it’s as simple as blame Jonny foreigner.
On his day, Kirky is easily in the top 3 English keepers
You cant be serious.
David James, Paul Robinson, Joe Hart, Rob Green, Ben Foster and Scott Carson
I make that six English keepers who on their day as you put it are better all round keepers than Kirkland. In fact he is probably the worst keeper in the prem at commanding his area and general distribution.
Whoknows – I cannot get involved in this debate until you confirm that “English flare” is really English flair and not some company manufacturing maritime distress mechanisms by royal appointment.

They are all terminally erratic and therefore, “on his day”, he is better than all six of them. I still shut my eyes every time a cross comes in towards him, mind you. That said, you have plenty of time to open them and get your bearings back as he subsequently hoofs the ball into orbit towards Jason Scotland’s “destined-to-miss-it” head

I am not blaming jonny foreigner and I havnt got a problem with foreigners in the team, I just feel the backbone of a team in the ENGLISH premier league should be English.
I have watched Latics from the northern premier and we have had players with loads of passion, heart, talent and skill
I know of at least 30 lads who have also watched them from this period who dont go anymore and one of the reasons is what I stated.
just to let you know I am a season ticket holder

I think you understand what we are on about so why try and be a smartarse

As I was typing I kept thinking that something wasn’t quite right, but couldn’t be arsed to check the spelling.

Oh, and do keep on being a smart arse. There simply isn’t enough humour on this board.

It strange how many people know 10, 20, or even 30 lads from the old days that no longer watch us, yet our average attendance is still 25X more.
I can’t understand why anyone would watch us when we were sh*te, but not watch us now when we are competing in the top league in the country, even if most of the players are from overseas.

Correct griff they all terminally erratic so therefore if the six I mentioned had “their day” and Kirky didnt that would make him the worst of the seven ;)
The point I was trying to make was that in my opinion of the seven keepers named and all having “their day” Kirkland would be 7th and definitely not top 3 material.
Just out of interest griff who would you say is/was the better keeper “on their day” Chris Kirkland or Roy Carroll”

Probably have to say Kirkland, but I was a big fan of Carroll’s, too
