The teams are led out on to the pitch by two mascots, one in a Liverpool shirt and one in an Everton shirt with the numbers ‘9’ and ‘6’ respectively on the back. It is a lovely touch met by stirring applause from the Goodison stands.
1958:
The names of those who died at Hillsborough are displayed on the big screen at Goodison as ‘He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother’ by the Hollies is played out.
The message ‘Merseyside United’ is shown – a very emotional moment.
i agree mate very touching i wenrt really old enough to remember hilsboro but seen enough on telly to know what it was all about pity about those morons at ot though
Translations:
I agree mate, very touching. I wasn’t really old enough to remember the Hillsborough tragedy, but I have seen enough on the TV to know what it was all about.

I would put money on the fact you were the biggest moron at OT multi or not!!
Joking aside though fair play to Everton and I hope everyone can show the right respect come Sunday.
I also thought it was a great gesture and well supported by the Everton fans. goodpost
I must say it did tickle me when the two kids stood on the centre circle then turned round as they were to walk to the tunnel. They held hands and started to walk off with the numbers in wrong order. The poor photographer couldn’t get them to swap places quick enough. :woohoo:
I had a league match ticket book at United for most of the 80’s & I was at United v Liverpool games (home & away) where it seemed that almost every Liverpool fan (& not just a small percentage of em) in the ground was taking great delight in singing “Who’s that lying on the runway etc…” so part of me can see (not agree) where some United fans are coming from
BUT for me this shouldn’t be about an eye for an eye but about respecting the memory of 96 innocent people who died at Hillsborough & the 20+ who died in Munich.
It’s also a chance for United fans to show that they may well have had this rammed down their throat for 31 years by some Liverpool fans but that they’re better than them
I can but hope
The most tragic aspect of this whole situation is that there is a chance that You’ll Never Walk Alone is going to get to number 1 in the charts.
I bet Gerry Marsden is loving it. What a ‘cash-cow’ that song has been for him. They had the original release in the 60’s, then it was dragged out after the Valley Parade disaster at Bradford in 1985, again after Hillsborough in 1989, and now its out again because of the Hillsborough inquest report.
