Absolutely F**K all wrong with that tackle that Caldwell got sent off for and, surprise surprise, straight red! Soon as the crowd shout… He sends him.
Atwell is a joke! Gives a stupid goal in the reading game, A red ard that never was today. Joke
On the upside… Moreno is looking good, quality turn and shot minute ago… Downside… Rodallega looks like he doesn’t want it in the net.
30 March 2010 at 1:22 am #27981still think we would win more games playing 442, rodney up front with moreno and moses and nzogbia on the flanks, diame mcarthy in the middle and scharner bramble figgy mechiot at the back scotland in goal if kirkland is injured for sat :o
30 March 2010 at 1:27 am #27984Did anyone see the Referee regularly have a joke with the City players, he was calling them by their 1st name for a start. 400 fans at City come on, that’s more like Ashton Athletic than Wigan Athletic
30 March 2010 at 1:31 am #27988unbelievable? i thought that was what kate said after going wow wow wow wow?

Sorry James C beg to differ Moreno was put through twice by Rodders in the first half in open space and choose to shoot
when he had the oppertunity to control the ball and advance into the
penalty box.
Not Premier League standard imo another jason scotland30 March 2010 at 12:58 pm #28021“Absolutely F**K all wrong with that tackle that Caldwell got sent off for and, surprise surprise, straight red! Soon as the crowd shout… He sends him”
To be honest I can see why Caldwell was sent off & expected to see the red card shown.
It wasn’t a 2 footed challenge but the laws state that you can’t go into a challenge with a lunge & with both feet off the floor (which they were) as you are no longer in control of your body so to speak. He was also a good 12 inches off the floor with his leading foot & his studs were showing. That he connected with the ball is irrelevant if you go into a tackle like that
I didn’t see the way Tevez went into the challenge at the time but having seen the replays he should have gone too as I thought his challenge was worse.Incidentally I watched it in my local pub & there was a well known premier league ref at the next table. I overheard him say to a mate that he “wouldn’t have sent him off for that” – Caldwell that is
30 March 2010 at 1:02 pm #28022I know what you’re saying but there were at least 2 identical challenges from City players after Caldwell was sent off which went unpunished, most refs use a bit of common sense with the letter of the law, most games would end up 9 a side otherwise.
Attwell is a Sunday League ref, how many chances will he get ?30 March 2010 at 2:52 pm #28028”Absolutely F**K all wrong with that tackle that Caldwell got sent off for and, surprise surprise, straight red! Agree with all that, TL. I’m not convinced it was really a red but I saw it coming.
Who was the ref? Chris Foy?
30 March 2010 at 3:35 pm #28032400 fans at City come on, that’s more like Ashton Athletic than Wigan Athletic:lol:  :D
30 March 2010 at 3:45 pm #28036A steward told me last night we had trebled our sales since Wednesday and they were expecting over 700 from Wigan. Whether there was 700 there last night or not I can’t say BUT we were louder than City who had 45,000 fans at the ground and much more vocal until going 2-0 down.
Considering our position in the league, the fact we don’t have a strong away following anymore, it was a Monday night and the game was on ESPN for fans to watch at home/pub on tv that’s not too bad.
Bolton took a couple of hundred fans to Goodison the other week according to talk sport, that was a Saturday afternoon game after a 4-0 win against us. Stan Collymore was continually pointing out the fact Bolton only took a couple of hundred to Everton and was giving stats such as the distance, etc. People won’t pay to watch football, it’s not just Wiganers.
30 March 2010 at 4:23 pm #28040“Agree with all that, TL. I’m not convinced it was really a red but I saw it coming.”
I don’t think there was any malicious intent in the challenge but at the ref’s seminars I’ve been to its exactly the sort they tell us are reckless & can be worthy of a red.
I know what you’re saying about seeing it coming though. The City fans were starting to get on the ref’s back coz he hadn’t fallen for any of Tevez’s dives & I thought that there was gonna be a big decision coming City’s way“Who was the ref? Chris Foy?”
Don’t really wanna give their name out coz I was introduced to him by the landlord & don’t want anyone chucking a spanner in my promotion chances!!! I think you know what town I live in though30 March 2010 at 4:43 pm #28042Having seen it again after the game, it wasn’t a two-footed challenge by Caldwell, he had one foot on the ground throughout the challenge and clearly played the ball with that foot.
Incidentally, I noticed that as he got up, Caldwell made a stamping motion with one foot, wondered why, but having seen it again Tevez goes in two-footed, studs up but fortunately misses both Caldwell and the ball.
Disgraceful decsion by the ref, particularly as he couldn’t have seen it properly, but I think if we appeal those clowns at the FA will add an extra game to the ban.
Did anyone else spot that City were allowed to take the corner which led to the 2nd goal when we were down to 9 men? Didn’t realise myself till I spotted Scharner (I think), stood on the touchline.

You must have seen completely different footage and photos than me than coz he jumps off the ground with both feet, leads in with one with the other trailing & connects with the top of the ball & tevez with the studs of his leading foot. The trailing foot then swings round & catches him too
Its not a “2 footed challenge” but it doesn’t need to be – as both feet left the floor the ref is entitled to think it was reckless & send him off
Likewise with Tevez but saying Caldwell had one foot on the ground throughout the challenge doesn’t tie in with anything I saw – particularly as he caught the ball with his leading foot which was clearly off the floor. if you think he caught the ball with his trailing leg then he’s gone over the top of the ball & through Tevez before he catches the ball
Technically the ref doesn’t need to see the end of the challenge if he sees both Caldwell’s feet leave the floor initiallyI think Tevez’s challenge was worse but Caldwell & Latics would be wasting their time appealing
30 March 2010 at 9:46 pm #28088I think we should appeal, I also think we will win the appeal and get it rescinded, as I still believe now that it was neither a foul nor a red card. I think it’s a fair tackle and they get made week in week out in football matches, the only thing Caldwell did was go in hard, and that is not against the rules. What did Atwell wnat him to do..Let Tevez run past him?
30 March 2010 at 10:23 pm #28090Well it would seem you are all barking up the wrong tree – apparantly Caldwell was sent off for serious foul play, not a studs up, not a two footed but
for a scissor tackle
no appeal by the club yet and if they do it may be deemed as ‘frivolous’ and the ban increased
