my feeling is if we stay up we will once again struggle in the premier league which of course would be sheer joy if you are a darksider. if we were to go down i personally think we would have a decentish team (minus the usual suspects leaving in the summer) & chance of doing well in the championship next season. im not saying we will come straight back up – ie leeds, boro et al. but, i do feel it would be like the old days of watching wigan in a stress free environment. as for this season i really feel we are short of a couple of decent strikers who know where the net is, of being a decent team. enough chances are being created but with no end product – this will send us down, not the team being crap, not martinez being clueless – but no goals.
Sheer joy ??? Are you for real man !! I fuckin hate this epic struggle man ! Dont think it will be hunky dory in The Championship because it wont and we will be mid table at best ! Our best bet is to stay up and bolster the squad but then come the usual ” Who will come to us ” and ” We cant spent that much ” so its a catch 22 but don’t try and tell me that I get joy out of it you idiot !
Not quite sure what id rather have… remember our 2 years in the championship was pure sucess.. i dont think wed enjoy it as much as wed expect to beat most teams. And the darkside would rejoice should we lose to a doncaster esc side at home

The team also concede too many goals in general & more specifically soft goals where the oppositon don’t have to work hard to score
On top of that for every game where Latics create alot of chances & miss them there are (IMO) more where Latics dominate possession but create next to nothing and games where they are just plain rank
So I’m afraid that you also have to attach blame to the team being crap, martinez’s tactics & selections etc..

Well put sir!
For the first time ever, at the start of the season I predicted that this would be the season that saw us relegated. Although we are helped tremendously be there being a number of teams being equally as bad as us (safety will be well below 40 points), I still see no reason to change my mind. Although we have some excellent players, in my opinion this is possibly the weakest squad we have had in quite some time. Don’t get me wrong, the club still have my support and I want them to stay in the Premiership.
I am very much sitting on the fence when it comes to Matinez. He was without doubt a club legend during his playing days, and he has done well to keep an unfashionable club as ourselves in the Premiership on a relatively small budget. He has however made some quite dubious signings and, if I were Dave Whelan, I’d be very sceptical about opening my cheque book to future signings. However, those on here who call for his head at every opportunity, I can’t help but think back at all the criticism of managers before him in recent times.
Steve Bruce got a lot of flack for the style of football we played. And yes, it was painful at times to watch. He did however establish us in the Premiership, built up a very solid defence and we weren’t constantly relying on results to go our way on the last day of the season.
Paul Jewell was slated by many fans for a variety of reasons despite all the success he lead us to. He has no plan B, his substitutions were always a topic of hot debate, he can’t motivate a team to win against big opposition, I can’t understand him when he talks. These were just a few of the criticisms. There was even the infamous moment of the season ticket being thrown at him (at the end of the season).
Basically, what I think I am trying to say is that I totally understand where the darkside is coming from and agree with them in some ways, but when you look back on this in a year or so, like we have with the previous managers, will all this ranting be as justified as you feel it is now? Maybe only time will tell who was right…
