Watched at home,my choice. Point proven home atmosphere was w###. East stand noise generators split up so no home fans bouncing . As guessed all you could hear on TV was the East stand. As for performance I thought we did as well as could be expected, they really should have been out of sight half time. I personally would have started Macmanaman and disappointed Maloney didn’t make subs at 1 down while still in it……then he brings on Uniteds best defender Magennis…………game over. Didn’t get a mauling……not sure about penalty….his delayed reaction was problem for me ,cheating turd gets away with it continuously……bluffs refs……but I just thought at 1 down we could have snatched something……..
Luckily a poor Utd turned up and we should have rode that luck. I thought Maloney bottled it. Were 1-0 down and totally non affective going forward and this was fully noticeable with 5-10 mins of the 2nd half.
Now normally if your only 1down there’s hope you can nick a goal be were awful and the chances of us nicking a goal with that 11 was nil.So what does he do ?, he brings on a guy who’s no better than me. On 55-60mins he should have been brave brought on Smith McManaman Lang Wyke any of them.
I’m not sure how Assguard stayed on for so long he should have gone off 30 to go and Humphrys was poor from the off he offered nothing.Jonny Evans won’t have an easier night standing under no pressure then pick any pass from the book of passing.
Yes I know it’s Man Utd but had a couple of players turned up and the manager been braver that p*ss average Utd side were there for the taking.
We ruffled them a few times without getting in to 2nd gear.The moment we added width we had joy. For me Maloney was at fault, his starting 11 was wrong and timing of subs, I mean ,Lang 91minute ?. He needed be on earlier put Jonny Evans under the cosh.
Like I said it’s Utd but we were poorAgree….I really thought we could have made them sweat and as you say they were bang average and we were completely toothless so why not at 60 bring on Wyke,Mac,Smith and get balls in fro wide ? but guess what ?….On trots Fletchers carbon copy……unreal !!!….Zero hope of rescuing a draw then. We really do need to sort the forwards out cos we have no continuity. Humphreys looks injured, Wyke off Maloneys Xmas card list Sze not up to it just yet and that Stones 28 day loan was invaluable!!!
I just saw it that, Utd weren’t bagging their chances and in truth they should have won 6/7-1 (or 2) but it’s the only way smaller clubs stand a chance, the Prem side have a off night or make huge wholesale changes. Utd came with a near full strength side so we had to hope they had a off night in front of goal which they did.
The difference against City which was a similar game was, we had someone on the last man in Grigg who at least had a bit of pace and knew we’re the back of the net was.
When Jonny Smith and McManaman came on we had a few half decent balls going in and pushed Utd back but sadly Magennis days are over and he offered nothing. I thought he would ruffle Jonny Evans’s feathers sitting on his shoulder but he did nothing of the sort.
Me, on 60mins I’d have gone Smith McManaman Wyke and got balls into Wyke and Lang on the harrass put pressure on when off the ball. Too many times Aasgaard and Humphrys sat deeper and deeper.
Like I say, you either sit in and hope they fire blanks and counter or go for it. Last night we offered nothing on the counter.
My big worry is, fcuk Utd the rest of the season. This nothing up front has gone on too long. I’d throw Wyke or Magennis out on loan and bring someone in as I can’t see them getting 10 between em between now and the end of the seasonLast word:-
Listen, I’m not saying we should have beat Utd but when your manager gets it wrong and 4-5 players don’t turn up you don’t help yourselfs. We were poor and it was all our own made doings nothing to do with Utd.
We needed to be at it from the start, busting a gut for 90mins with the correct players and hope Utd struggled.50% of that came true it was the other 50%, our performance that was way off the mark.
If, and a big if had we of played anywhere near how we played at the beginning of the season Ten Hag would be clearing the pencils out this morning but sadly we’re a shadow of that and haven’t been for the past month.
I just hope there’s huge improvements in our next few games or we’ll soon enough be back in a scrapI don’t get some supporters thinking it was a great performance. Easiest 2 nil win you’ll see. Wrong team selection, late substitutions (Jones should have been yanked half time). Magennis was dog shit at Barnsley but obviously Maloney doesn’t think so ….still preferred in front of Wyke. Real opportunity on 60 mins to really give it a go …..still in it remember for all their 1st half missed opportunities…..waited till game over then goes damage limitation substitution (Magennis). A good Utd from years gone by would have smashed us …..so this poor side was there to at least have a go at…..and we chose not to be embarrassed.
One gripe, wtf was Maloney doing on the pitch 25 mins before the game been interviewed???. For me that’s the time you should be in with your players getting them ready stoking the fire, talking to them arm around all in it together.

Son rekons Lang looked in tears at the end…..stayed on pitch well after final whistle…..fueling the already circling rumours he’s off to join Richardson at Rotherham. I’d be sorry to see him go but couldn’t blame him. Pity we can’t offload Magennis till June. …….if true let’s see what fee if any we get……and more importantly what freebies we can recruit to join the 1st eleven tombola!!!
Shame, there’s a fair few fans who don’t like Lang but he’s hardly been treated right at Wigan. I’ll always remember the 1st admin when we sent him out on loan and saved about 30bob while the big earners lingered like wet farts drawing bug wages.
I personally like Lang and for me he was perfect for last night. If in doubt watch the first half against Utd and look at the way Utd chased and pressed us the look at the way we stood there. Lang with 30 to go was perfect and so would have been Stones because between Wyke and Magennis they couldn’t hit a gable end with a Spacehopper.
Good luck to him if he goes but but wrong he should be offered a contractGood enough for top 4 teams but not for us…..agree he’s struggled but why not try playing him on the right where he’s always done well……..his poor form is again in a large proportion down to Maloney and his multitude of starting 11’s. Last night we played a misfiring Utd side and under performed.If your manager can’t get you jumping off cliffs against a club like Utd in a Cup game then I’m sorry. We looked no better than we’ve played in the past few months, boring build up fcuk all up front.
Lang’s better off going now because in the summer he’s gone for nothing anyway. I’m sure he’ll improve elsewere.

No chance of us offloading Wyke or Magennis and I will say something here about Wyke. His contract is up in June. I bet that towards the seasons end he announces he has decided to retire due to his health issues. Nobody else would touch him due to the risk. And Magennis? An absolute waste of a wage.I also didn’t like Maloneys subs the other night. It was like we were just along for the night out, in a way. The Chaperone to Uniteds date, if you like.
It’s true Lang looked emotional as he stood on his own clapping the fans. He crouched down at one point, head in his hands. He’s been played out of position by Baloney all along…I dont see what the problem is? Does he just not rate him as a player? Well I don’t rate Maloney. I think he’s just a temporary fixture. His tactics are shite, his selections and subs, are shite too. He’s only here because of his history with us. Why do Latics always go for ex players or connections? No other club does it as much. To me he’s not the long term answer, but he’s an easy one for the chairman etc….
Oh and apparently we couldn’t afford the £1800 a week wage to bring Jensen Weir back in on loan. Truly, we are still in a bad mess, the infrastructure is still all over the place, no board, no Chief Executive, no scouting system. We are even making do with using physios and medical staff from the Rugby after Doc Tobin left.We arent the club we used to be. At all.
Too many so called football experts at this club and other forums continually slate lang instead of Mr swap shop. Not a f####### clue which 11 he’ll start on any given match day or where they’ll play. Agree I thought it was a timid effort against Utd and his substitutions smacked of not wanting the young uns to be on the end of a bad experience. Shit home atmosphere created by the East stand disgrace. I came off underwhelmed….feeling with a more ballsy man in charge we could just maybe have got the crowd animated and stole a goal. Instead he starts an injured Humphreys, no Macmanaman..then brings f######## Magennis on so you know that’s it. Embargo and by sounds of it no money anyway……are we really going to cash Lang in for a paltry 250 to 300k…….and replace him with who !!!!!….I’m starting to get a tad concerned about our real finances…..as stated no scouts, board,doctor etc,etc………and no information from our owner as to the real status of our club. Simple offer Lang a deal!!!!!
