In Oct 1993 at Old Springfied we lost 1-3 to Bury.
There were 983 of us there.
Were you one of these hardy souls?
Who would have thought then we would be so close to the Knockout stages in Europe today.15 November 2013 at 3:48 am #123467Q 1000 ” I was there” replies

15 November 2013 at 8:51 pm #123487It was an Autoglass Trophy game to be fair.
Just had a look at our history in that competition and there were some poor crowds both home and away.

Who would have thought then we would be so close to the Knockout stages in Europe today. If memory serves me right, wigan went 1-0 up with a goal from a penalty with the offending bury player getting sent off in the process.
We then managed to concede 3 despite playing against 10 men.
My recollection is that the attendance was announced at the same time as bury’s 3rd goal scorer, but that may not be completely accurate.
What is definitely true is that it was one of our very lowest ebbs and yet it remains one of my fondest memories.18 November 2013 at 4:11 pm #123555good days

18 November 2013 at 5:21 pm #123557I went to Reading for a Tuesday night game some 30 years ago and there was only me and S.Gall there from Wigan.
18 November 2013 at 7:25 pm #123562I went to Reading for a Tuesday night game some 30 years ago and there was only me and S.Gall there from Wigan.I went to watch us play away at Dunfermline in a pre-season friendly back in the late 90s. I wasn’t sad enough to count exactly how many were there, but it wasn’t many more than two. But… so f****** what?!
18 November 2013 at 7:45 pm #123564I went to Reading for a Tuesday night game some 30 years ago and there was only me and S.Gall there from Wigan.me & my cousin were once the only Wiganers at any away game at Crewe, in fact we were pretty much the only supporters from either team – everybody else had heard the news that the match had been cancelled :(
18 November 2013 at 11:25 pm #123566I remember that! We were on the M6 when we heard it on the radio.
I’m sure we went to another game – but can’t for the life of me remember what.
19 November 2013 at 12:04 am #123569Another last minute postponed game at Doncaster, ended up at Huddersfield (old ground, Leeds Road) :(

Was that the Boxing Day game around 1993/1994?
I remember everywhere being frozen solid up Bongs way & me phoning up Crewe several times prior to setting off to check it was still on & being told there was no chance it would get called off so me, my dad & my mate set off.
Got to the ground to be met by loads of people coming the other way & telling us it was off.In a sign of how times have changed, for some reason my dad took a mainly non-motorway route home & we were stuck for ages behind a freight rover minibus cram packed full of people. It slammed on outside a chippy & out piled Alan Johnson & the rest of the team.
Can’t imagine today’s Latics taking too kindly to being ferried to local away games in one of the worst minibuses ever made. Probably had to pay for their own chips tooOn a purely willy waving tip, I remember going to Hereford away in Sept 1994 for the first game after Graham Barrow had been appointed manager. Got stuck in horrible motorway traffic, was half an hour late & had to pay in the club shop to get in. Hereford took the lead as me & my mate were being walked round the pitch to the away end & my memory tells me that there weren’t more than about 20-30 people there. Surely that deserves some kind of commemorative t-shirt more than nipping round the corner to watch a home game?? ;) ;)
