Steve Senior going to Knob End! If they aren’t a major rival I don’t know who is.
Everton could be said as not being a rival because Bobby had already relegated us by the time he jumped for their pot of gold. Like I said who could blame him, we all wouldn’t mind more money. A massive reward for a massive bollox up, doesn’t come to everybody everyday so who could blame our Bob, but confess your undying love for something one day then leave them the next day relegated and then take their staff and players is another thing.

Steve Senior is a bit before my time.

Everton are not and will never be one of our main rivals. Bob left to better his career after giving us the greatest moment in our history. I certainly hold no grudges.

Lee McCulloch – the way he, by his own admission, conducted himself was far worse than Chimbonda

Still gave his all on the field though
His “all” resulted in a sending-off in his last game and allowed Heskey to gain cult status as a centre-half.
It did yes. And?

He didn’t exactly take his toys home and refuse to play did he?
Here’s the account I’ve had:

Apparently, towards the end of Jewell’s last season, McCulloch met privately with Dave Whelan to inform him out of courtesy that he’d heard Rangers were interested in him again – despite having a bid rejected in January, and he wanted to join them at the end of the season. DW said he could leave at the end of the season with his blessing and would not stand in his way if Wigan avoided relegation. So, McCulloch thanked him, and said he was going to get his agent to write up a transfer request – which he’d hand to Paul Jewell.

But immediately after the conversation and before he was able to submit the request, news of Lee McCulloch planning to leave Wigan appeared on Sky Sports – seemingly leaked (bearing in mind it was a meeting between just two people). Paul Jewell flew off the handle and called McCulloch all sorts of names to anyone who’d listen.

Anyway, that summer, we avoided relegation and DW immediately announced that he’d turned down a bid from Rangers as he didn’t feel the offer was acceptable. McCulloch, angry and upset, approached DW to remind him of their conversation, only for Whelan to deny the conversation ever took place.

Thoroughly pissed off, McCulloch then told his teammates and Hutchings (the new manager) that he was going to feign injuries and disrupt training sessions until the club agree to sell him to Rangers.

The two clubs eventually agreed on a price and McCulloch was sold to Rangers.

I’m sure if you asked Mr Whelan for his side of the story it would be a different account. So it’s a case of which one do you believe?
My issue isn’t with what went on in the summer, it was with what went on in January.
In the middle of a relegation battle with the club & manager that turned him from a no-mark centre forward into a premier league standard left winger he effectively tried to force the club into selling him for what was in effect buttons/next to nothing. By his own admission he then kicked up one hell of a stink for a prolonged period that month when the club stuck to their guns & kept knocking back Rangers’ derogatory offers.
Once the transfer window had closed he gave an interview to one of the local rags in which he pretty much admitted that he hadn’t been giving his all during January but would now go back to doing so.

I hadn’t heard the summer story but some of his actions then tie in with what I’ve heard about him in the January

As others have said, it’s his job and it was a dream move for him but as a supporter of Wigan Athletic that conduct is far worse to me than handing in a transfer request in his kit

When Tony Kelly left for Stoke he was only allowed to play certain games because he left late in the season. I think the rule was then if you left after a certain date you could not play in games affecting promotion/relegation. We were looking good for promotion ourselves but blew up once he had gone. To me one of the worst decisions the club have ever made.

A player who leaves for more money which face it most of us would if the chance came along. Or is a Judas just a player or manager who just leaves without any regard to the fans or club. Depends how fans look at things. Pascal Chimbonda for instance was he a Judas and if so was Jason Roberts?
Let’s have a top 5 or ten biggest Judas’s.
1 Roberto Martinez.
2 Pascal Chimbonda.
3 Steve Senior.
4 Steve Johnstone.
5 Jimmy Bullard.
Bobby who could blame him really but after saying how much he loved us just going and not having a go at promotion.
Chimbonda, well his timing.
Senior, well just going to Knob End.
Johnston well for just leaving when he did.
Anymore anyone?

but I think you mean Alan Johnson who went to a tribunal to leave for Lincoln City for the princely sum of £65,000. Proper Judas, that fella; especially since I think he was a Wigan Mon born and bred !

Anyway, Bobby Judas is odds on for a return to the DW.

People wanting to better themselves is not being a Judas. Not in my eyes anyway. Had Bobby resigned and been without a job then he could have been criticised for ‘jumping ship’ but he went to a much bigger club to try and better his career. Every single one of us would have done the same no matter how much we love this club.

I wouldn’t describe Alan Johnson as a judas
Firstly I was at an away friendly against Skem the close season after Latics had been relegated from the 3rd div & Bryan Griffiths turned up to watch & was stood near where the entrance to the changing rooms. Alan Johnson was subbed in the second half, Griffiths tried to exchange pleasantry’s with him & Johnson gave him both barrels to the effect that he’d left Latcis in the lurch
Secondly, I was a part time steward back then as well (when I was home from uni) & was told when he left from someone at the club that he’d gone to speak to Kenny Swain to inform him that Lincoln had sounded out his agent after a game they’d played against them recently. I was told that before the conversation got any further that Kenny Swain said “Well just f*** off to Lincoln then” – so he did
