Oops.McCarthy – possibly? Are you serious? McCarthy looks like he’s going to be a great player, and we’ll be lucky to still have him by next January.
The goalkeeper is here until the end of the season. He was only brought in to provide cheap cover.
Gahouri – how you can you even comment on him considering he had made one substitute appearance, and then has been injured since?
Scotland is clearly still up for debate. Personally, I think he’s a useful member of the squad. He’ll never set the world alight, but he works hard when he’s on the pitch.
Amaya, fair enough, he hasn’t shown that he’s good enough so far during his few appearances.
Gomez – has been largely poor. He was tipped by many to be a hit in the Premier League, but it’s not happened, in a similar way to Koumas. If we somehow manage to secure safety before the final couple of games of the season, I’d like to see him get a chance in the team to show what he can do.

None of those signings are what I would call TOP signings. In your own words you say Mccarthy looks like hes GOING be a great player, then give me a load of excuses to why the others arent.We paid decent money for Mccarthy, and hes spent half the season in the reserves. Not much different to the fee we paid for Cattermole. We need players who are ready for the 1st team.

Not much different to the fee we paid for Cattermole. We need players who are ready for the 1st team.As per the other two posts above, McCarthy was carrying an injury at the start of the season. Also, even if he was fit, you don’t sign a young lad who has never played in the Premier League, and throw him into the team.
The difference between Cattermole and McCarthy is that Cattermole had already played in the Boro first team for two seasons. The fee for Cattermole was £3m, and for McCarthy it was £1.5m (or something like that) rising to £3m after X amount of appearances.
The reasons we don’t sign ‘Top Players’ is that many wouldn’t want to play for Wigan, we can’t afford the transfer fees, and we can’t/won’t pay the high salaries they demand.
Thats exactly my point. We have a high turn over of players here and we need players ready for the first team. We lost Brown, Cats and Valencia over the summer and havnt replaced em in my view.

Heskey used to be a top player, but by the time we’d signed him, he’d been relegated with Birmingham, was nowhere near the England team was seen by most as well past his best.
Camara was a misfit.
Chimbonda was virtually unknown to anyone in England before he signed for Wigan.
Cattermole was a good young up and coming player – not a ‘top player’.
Kirkland was an injury prone Liverpool reject on loan at West Brom.The only way this club can survive in the Premier League is to farm young players or unknowns, making them into something that can be sold on at a profit.

Pre-empting Callmeishmael’s next post, he’ll be slagging off Scotland and Gomez for not even being good enough to be classed as “past their best” or “up and coming”

I have got a bit of time on my hands, as one of our major clients is currently experiencing serious financial difficulties, and we’ve effectively severed our relationship with them…..
I’ve given up on posting my views in the pro/anti Martinez though, as I don’t think the two sides will ever find common ground. Also last week, my Mrs was criticising my technique of one handed typing and holding the baby in the other arm, whilst simultaneously tutting, murmuring to myself and shaking my head.

They slotted straight in. Although I think Moses and McCarthy are promising, they’re not the finished article.
