According to Wigan Today. So if that’s the case then buckle up for more Footballing tripe, because I cannot see him changing his 1 striker ,team selection merry-go-round .Unless our chairman has had a word.I’m led to believe Holt’s loan ended yesterday so be interesting to see what ensue’s in that department.
10 November 2014 at 12:49 pm #135311I think that’s pretty good news. There are a few players that owe the manager and the club some gut busting performances. It’s not all down to the manager, you know.
10 November 2014 at 12:57 pm #135312So how do you expect players to show their best with his ridiculous team rotations and his insistance on playing 1 striker ? cos it’s not the players who pick the team.I hope Mr Whelan is right because so far his tenure has been a car crash .
10 November 2014 at 1:00 pm #135313I don’t necessarily expect them to show their best. Just putting in a shift would do for now. A bit like they did against Derby.

Fancy being the ONLY coach in world football to play one striker with 3 attacking midfielders like MacManaman, Maloney and MacLean to support him. He’ll have to drop it soon because it’ll never catch on.
10 November 2014 at 1:43 pm #135316Whelan backs Rosler – good to see!
10 November 2014 at 1:54 pm #135317Just remind me how many teams in THIS league play a lone striker not the world.Blackburn inconsistent but Rhodes,Gestedes have 15 between them. Our forwards certainly not good enough to play this system. How did we get out of the Championship ? Playing 1 forward ?

I take it you’ve forgotten about the play offs and cup semi final?

I blame Martinez for inventing it.10 November 2014 at 3:07 pm #135320Have you looked at the table the right way up ? 3 wins in 17.Forwards goal tally’s playing his tinker-system Riera 1, Fortune 1,Waghorn 2 Delort 0…..working a treat isn’t it ?
10 November 2014 at 3:16 pm #135321Can’t believe anyone is sticking up for him.
His chance has gone, he hasn’t learned anything from chopping and changing including his 1 up front. The only player who can play the way he wants up front is Fortune and he’s trying his heart out but there’s no goalscorer in the team, even though there’s 3 (Riera, Delort, Waghorn) at the club. Been saying this all season on here.
Just out of interest, has anyone found out why McManaman changed wings on Friday after destroying their right back for the first 15? Seemed an odd thing to do.
I genuinely believe there are members on this board who would get more out of this squad than the German is.

All the more reason to use less of them and use more attacking midfielders.
So, for the millionth time, answer me this… If we play two strikers who can’t score, how many chances do you think we will make for them if we reduce the number supporting them from midfield? And more importantly, why will they suddenly remember/learn how to score if there are two of them,? And dont give me the line that they don’t get enough service (see above), I have seen no evidence yet that any of them could score in a brothel with £20 hanging out of their arse pocket
10 November 2014 at 3:25 pm #135323it’s impossible to get out of any lower league playing a lone striker, in my opinion, it cannot work. it’s o.k. for the top teams in the world to do it, they have the players who can back it up. in my many years of playing and watching football, strikers do best when they are in pairs, a tried and tested system , they are most of the time, no more than 10 yards off one another backing each other up. i’m pissed off watching other teams centre backs having a shagger of day when having one striker to contend with. one will be having a woodbine while the other kicks fuck out of our striker, then vice versa. until we change the system and stick to it, i fear the worst.
10 November 2014 at 3:35 pm #135325Who bought Delort/Riera ? Fortune might do a job in a two-some but useless as a goalscorer. Why not look in our leagues for a forward whose done his apprenticeship and can hack it not some euro poser .Remember Ellington/Roberts …did there lower league time.

It can only tell you that if you’re looking at the stats and not watching games.
What I’ve seen is that we’re not playing strikers as strikers, which begs the question why did he buy them? Delort could score a pon ful but he might as well play in goal if you’re asking him to play lone striker, holding the ball up.
