So it all comes back to the manager. He has so far proved hugely ineffective with his team selection/motivation.Who else would you blame ?

Have you looked at the table the right way up ? 3 wins in 17.Forwards goal tally’s playing his tinker-system Riera 1, Fortune 1,Waghorn 2 Delort 0…..working a treat isn’t it ?

All that tells me is that we have shit strikers. All the more reason to use less of them and use more attacking midfielders.

So, for the millionth time, answer me this… If we play two strikers who can’t score, how many chances do you think we will make for them if we reduce the number supporting them from midfield? And more importantly, why will they suddenly remember/learn how to score if there are two of them,? And dont give me the line that they don’t get enough service (see above), I have seen no evidence yet that any of them could score in a brothel with £20 hanging out of their arse pocket
It can only tell you that if you’re looking at the stats and not watching games.

What I’ve seen is that we’re not playing strikers as strikers, which begs the question why did he buy them? Delort could score a pon ful but he might as well play in goal if you’re asking him to play lone striker, holding the ball up.
He could. Then again, I have seen no evidence whatsoever to back that up.

We played 2 strikers the other week and created zero chances and scored zero games. So, using your cut and dried black and white theory that 2 up front is the answer, my black and white answer based on the evidende I have seen is that 100% of times we have tried it, it didn’t work.

Hindsight latic strikes again….

Forward thinking for a second, who do you expect to replace him?

I’ve seen Moyes and Pulis mentioned… Why not stick a cheeky bid in for Jürgen Klopp? Have about as much chance of getting him as the other two.

Constantly changing managers mid-season is a recipe for disaster!

So how do you expect players to show their best with his ridiculous team rotations and his insistance on playing 1 striker ? cos it’s not the players who pick the team.I hope Mr Whelan is right because so far his tenure has been a car crash .

I agree. Fancy being the ONLY coach in world football to play one striker with 3 attacking midfielders like MacManaman, Maloney and MacLean to support him. He’ll have to drop it soon because it’ll never catch on.
And is it working ?,
if its broke fookin fix it I say !!

Oh right…so we play 2 up front for 1 game and it didn’t work so let’s revert back to 1 which has not worked for the whole season. How’s about a new concept. …start with 2 for maybe a few games to build a relationship and why not go the whole hog and play a consistent starting 11.As for new manager…Malkie would do.His squad swapsie had been fruitless (look at the table again please) so isn’t that poor management? The striker must be knobbed off ploughing a lone furrow.

I’m happy for a bit of grey now as long as he changes what he’s been doing. My black and white theory needs more testing in my opinion before you should comment on how successful or not it is. Oh and if he does ever change his mind to my way of thinking, I hope he remembers to play a midfield.

Brilliant. Hilarious.

Didn’t realise I was talking to such tactical geniuses. Horc must be twitching like a rabbit’s nose in that interview queue with the Neville brothers waiting in the wings.

He tried to use the same tactic’s at both Derby and Bolton, playing high up field stopping both from playing it out from the back. At Bolton, Bolton weren’t harsed, they were more direct so what was he shouting to the back 4 “PUSH UP !!PUSH UP !!” hence 3 goals came in quick succession.

and after we were 3-0 down

“PUSH UP!! PUSH UP !!”

I would have thought at some point after we went 3 down an extra forward would have come on, forgot we only have the one

That was something I meant to bring up.
As well as Cal Mac swapping wings after destroying the full back for a quarter of an hour, at 3 down he brought on defensive midfielder Kvist who, by his own admission, won’t get you goals and left Waghorn who can get you goals on the bench.

Can somebody sort these things out for me?

All this talk about what he should or shouldn’t be doing is useless.
Whelan has Spoken so i Fir one will now get fully behind uwe irreapective. I will just lower my expectations.

I must admit I scratched my head at that one and I thought there’d be a certain irony in it if the axe had swung and it had been his final tactical change.

For what it’s worth, I too don’t understand why Waghorn isn’t getting a game. I’d have him just behind Fortune and four across midfield, currently McManaman, Maloney/Cowie*, Forshaw and McLean.

Easy this football manager malarkey ;)

*McCann if/when fit.

Well, clearly we don’t have just one. We have a few, just NONE who I would trust to score for me if my life depended on it. ;)

I’d be happy to go with two out and out forwards, but not in a rigid 4-4-2; we get ripped to shreds in midfield as it is with three in there. I’d prefer a 3-5-2 which might need some square pegs in round holes but we don;t seem averse to trying that, do we?

What is clear, and all banter and name-calling aside, is that what we are doing isn’t working. I’m still not convinced that it is the 1-up front that is the main issue, as we are pretty poor all over the park to be honest.

What seems will NOT be changing any time soon is the manager. I’ve said this before but if some players are not playing for him – whoever is at fault – then it might need a Whelan dressing room dressing down like he did for Jewell some years ago. After all, Whelan seems to have backed Uwe as his man today so he doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon.

And this may be a bit controversial but – cos I know we have not been getting results, which is a concern – but I honestly don’t think the football has been as bad as people have been making out. It’s been bad. Just not that bad. So maybe not all doom and gloom.

There. Well, it’s not like you’d not expect me to take the positives, is it?

Happily Whelan is far more savvier than his trigger-happy early days in charge and is rightly appearing to back his manager. Brighton’s keeper was man of the match last Tuesday and Wigan were cursed not to be comfortably ahead at half-time on Friday night. I thought both those team performances were of a similar quality to many I witnessed under Rosler last season that saw us climb the table quickly, I’m sure the results will improve very soon.
Like everyone else there are aspects of Uwe’s team selection that I find baffling, in particular I don’t think the ever-willing Espinoza has the finesse to play in an attacking-midfield position.
