We can separate the two camps here , the anti Dave Whelan brigade who have no business nous whatsoever , you can find these people stacking shelves , McDonalds , wharehouses etc
and have the usual workers v boss mentality.
The pro Dave Whelan are people who have brains in their heads , company bosses and the higher end of the employment ladder , people who know what it takes to balance books and make a business work.
You know which camp you are in and you know im correct.
Just going to shoot your argument down a bit here. Im not at the ‘business’ end of the ladder and don’t work with balancing books etc etc, and I am also not anti-whelan (argument down the drain??).. I just think Whelan should shut up a bit more that’s all.
:)
Must confess griff to being in neither camp, being right in between the two was my position, appreciative of what he had done for us whilst wondering who was going to be sold next, and wondering where the sky millions had gone. Didn’t DW say earlier in the season
that our debt was very low compared to other clubs, think he said we were just 15 million in debt, that being the case it shows the sky money has been going to pay off the club’s debts. My viewpoint would now swing towards the protector of the cause, HOWEVER before resetting the pendulem, I will just wait and see if our big two players key to our premiership survival remain after the transfer window.
I’d assume that £15m is to banks, the rest of the debt is to Whelan.
He appears to be reducing his personal debt, what’s left he’ll apparently convert into shares, he’d only get that money back when he sells the club.
Handing ownership of the stadium to Latics makes sense as he’ll have a bigger payday when he eventually does sell up.
How we he have a bigger payday? If someone was buying the club and the stadium was in Whelans ownership, they would have to buy that of him meaning he still got money for it?? You make no sense and you are pessimistic :)

Whelan can only get his money back if he sells Latics on at a decent price. To do that we need to maintain our Premiership status, Championship at the very least, and own our stadium.
It would be a hard sell if Latics didn’t have any foundations in place, I also doubt Whelan wants to be left with a multi-million pound stadium on his hands.

He wouldn’t be left with it in his hands, the people who buy us would buy that aswell, your making no sense.
My spelling does make sense by the way thattwoyears, I just put ‘we’ by accident instead of ‘will’, and get a life instead of spotting petty spelling mistakes. ;)
If Latics didn’t own the stadium, revenue generated by it could be diverted away from the club. There would also be the possibility of a third party buying the stadium and not putting Latics at the top of their priorities. We’ve seen the rugby having to move matches, I wouldn’t like to see a Latics match switched because the stadium owners could generate more revenue from a concert or event.
Noone gets as rich as Whelan without having a ruthless hard headed streak. Whatever his reasons – ego trip, whatever, he delivered and took us up to the prem. I don’t mind if he gets his money back. Look around the prem and down through the divisions to see how much worse it could be.
We’ve probably got the lowest prices in the prem, particularly for kids which means most people who are interested can afford to get in. Has developed the fanbase for long term hopefully.
Overall, with some negatives, he’s been a positive force for Latics.
