It is thought Martinez rejected a deal with Aston Villa worth around twice his current contract because of the faith chairman Dave Whelan has placed in him over the course of his time at Wigan
This indicates that Martinez did care! The next year, he turned down Liverpool.
So Martinez gave us two more years and a successful trip to Wembley.
He was always bound for greater things. We were lucky to have him for four years.[/quote]
Contrary to popular belief, Liverpool did not offer RM a job ! You love Bob don’t you Barnsley ! I would say that you are the ‘Bobsessive’ one here ! ha ha ha Statistically ( Win ratios ), Steve Bruce has been our best manager in the Prem who has managed 50 games and over with a 33.82% win ratio compared to RM’s meagre 28.98% win ratio ! Steve Bruce left us and he was vilified for it whereas RM left us and wasn’t ! FA Cup win swings it RM’s way but that is the only reason ! :)
8 December 2013 at 9:01 pm #124542I do like good football.
Bruce had a big budget. As other clubs were increasing their budgets, Martinez had to reduce his by 25%.
Roberto made the most of his limited resources – playing three at the back was an imaginative and brave tactic.
Bruce himself struggled at Sunderland, but is doing better at Hull. Roberto seems to have settled in quickly at Everton.
8 December 2013 at 9:11 pm #124543Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has revealed that Owen Coyle’s exit has cost the club “in the region of £500,000”.Happy Christmas, Owen. At least you can afford another turkey!
he bought enough in the summer

8 December 2013 at 11:38 pm #124548Was three at the back a safety first tactic? No, not at all. A bigger budget and a larger squad would have helped.Perfectly evidenced by Wednesdays and todays performances. Better players.
It was just like watching uas last season part of the time this afternoon.McCarthy was very influential.
I know loads of Evertonians. They all love Roberto now and think young James is a great signing. :)

Aye, we gave him un-conditional love and then he dumped us for a big fat wallet. JUDAS !
9 December 2013 at 1:21 am #124556He turned down Villa.
He turned down Liverpool.
And all he left us with is the FA Cup.

Ah – the classic argument. Well I’d have been a damn sight happier if he’d given that as a genuine reason, rather than more of the crap he’d been spitting at us for 4 years:
“I’m shocked we got relegated”
“I’m not up to the job of getting Wigan back up”9 December 2013 at 3:34 am #124566this is fckin hilarious.

I’m starting to think that Martinez must have shagged your missus – it’s the only possible explanation for you to be still banging on about it

I bet you weren’t complaining when he did the same to swansea eh pal.
Do you actually follow football at all, er, didn’t Moyes dump Everton and take that Belgium fellow and is still chasing Baines, didn’t Rodgers dump Swansea and take some of their players(maybe one then) do you want me to go on?…..and on?…..and fckin on?,
who knows, maybe the fact that Rosler has dumped Brentford he might bring one or two of their best players here.
Maybe, just maybe, that’s what happens in football.
Please let us know.
dynamite.
