I hate Wigan Warriors because I kinda have too being a Saints supporter myself, though if they weren’t around Latics would have much bigger crowds – and bigger people filling those seats! So that’s one of my main reasons for hating them.
But on terms of Saints v Warriors, who’s got better supporters it’s Warriors by an absolute mile. St.Helens home fans are a bunch of fairweather fans that don’t ‘understand’ the club as most other teams support do. I’m one of these myself in a way …. but with my already supporting Athletic home and away I know unlike others how to support a club.
And yes I know that last paragraph was random but it needed saying :shifty:
Why do you stick up for the worriers then? Ah blx blokes at work support Man Utd, City , Liverpool and the worriers so I think I’ll support the Saints as a kind of ‘mirror image’. Looking forward to Good Fridays in the north stand.
As a St Helens lad, I’d expect nothing more, but fair play to you for admitting who has the more loyal fans!
I’m really interested in seeing in what other Latics fans think.
For me it’s not the sport which is quite a spectacle, nor the club itself but their fans, which includes the local labourite council, local ass licking media and the police.
In other words they’re the ultimate establishment club and I loath their glory hunting, arrogant fans who were against us just because we had the audacity to have another professional sports club in ‘their’ town. The same nob heads who loath the English rugby union team (who have won a world cup in the aussies back yard) and dismiss them as ‘henry’s’ with their outdated inverse snobbery. The same set of khunts who want to wave big flags and make no secret of their support (do any of them actually go) of Liverpool, Utd and Bolton just out of spite. The same tosseurs who come on here having their say but banning people who go on rlfans.com. The same ten bob millionaire crappy directors like Rathbone, Robinson , Hilton and Lindsay who prevented us from moving to an ideal central location in a rejuvenated Central Park which may well have made us a one town two sports club. The same corrupt labourite mp’s from jockland or down south who jump on their bandwagon forgetting half the town hate them. I’m looking forward to seeing who the successful southern middle class slut who’s from labour’s women only shortlist is and how long it takes her to be photographed at a Warriors game.
Even some of my friends support the warriors and when I sneer they say “ooh we should be all one town like Leeds and Hull”. Yeah well its impossible here. I really wish Dave Whelan had just let them go to the wall and saved Orrell RUFC instead.
Rant over.
:text-goodpost:
Obviously, as I grew up in Skem, it was a bit different and I never had the rugby thing shoved in my face as a youngster. My nan tried to get me into them, as she was from Lamberhead Green, and had gone to Wembley in 1948, and every year in the 80’s. (never went to league games, though!)
But I never fell for it. She knew I was football daft. She knew I was Latics. And in all that time, guess what she bought me to do with Latics? Nothing. My dad (her son in law) used to say to me “If you supported the rugby, she’d be buying you shirts, tracksuits, and everything”. It was true.
Apart from going to 3 games with a college mate in about 95-96 I’ve never bothered, and I just didn’t get the game as it lacked the excitement and fast action of football, where the ball can be from one end of the pitch to the other, in seconds. The best thing was that you could have a beer whilst watching. And Friday night games were good, as you were handy for the bars and clubs afterwards.
I don’t really bother about them, to be honest.
I know the lad who is the mascot, ‘Max’. He’s from Skem, and is an Everton fan. I also know one of their ‘fan leaders’, and he hates us with a passion.
Based on that theory (both sides get the same number of tickets for a final) it seems the Scouse Lodgers have lost around 40,000 fans since the Grand Final then…..
St Helens 16, Harlequins 27
Att: 6050
Mind you, I’m confused how 90,000 fitted into Old Trafford when it only holds 75,000 for the GF.
its not like the leyland daf trophy :crying-yellow:
You’re right, it’s not. The Leyland Daff Trophy is/was competed for by teams who come from every area of the UK, and it’s a straight knock-out tournament to qualify for the final as opposed to an end of season money spinner where you’re given a second chance if you lose.
I once won a pineapple throwing competition whilst on holiday in St Kitts. Six of us were in it – a German, an American, a Canadian, an Irish lad, and a bloke from Birmingham. I quite rightly consider myself to be a world champion in that sport.
standish , you can only play and beat whats in front of you
wigmon , another gem from a tic . so the actual club is ok , its the fans that every other RL club hates ?
why would another club hate our fans
when we go to away games its more often than not the home teams best gate of the season ??
on that basis i would say most other clubs love us
Yes, you can only beat what’s in front of you, however, you cannot compare achievements in the two sports – which is what most Warriors fans do.
Wigan RL lost in the game against the Aussies, so are not World Champions. I however, won in my fruit throwing event, so I am still the World Champion and therefore must be better.
It’s like comparing oranges to apples (or pineapples in my case).
And this leads on to the subject of hatred from other clubs. No, the clubs do not hate Wigan, but fans of those clubs do, or have done in the past. Again, it’s down to the attitude of the Wigan supporters, and why you’ve heard the ‘We hate Wigan’ and ‘Stand up if you hate Wigan’ songs around various grounds in years gone by – and if you don’t remember these songs, you are very young.
