According to our council who have removed the signs on the roadside, welcoming people to the town… it looks like there is just one team in the town again after winning their first trophy (sic) in 12 years..

They’re lapping it up there.
:D
I believe one or two sign-writing “amendments” might be in order…… ;)
11 October 2010 at 1:56 am #48458andyed-wiganrl, despite being a “Typical L@tics Scummer” I have no intention of defacing any road sign, anywhere, Wigan Rugby related or otherwise.
The comment was tongue in cheek and i, wrongly it seems, expected it to be taken as such
The spray paint is being saved for that huge coffee bean in Tesco car park anyway………..
11 October 2010 at 1:57 am #4845911 October 2010 at 3:30 am #48461its fully understandable the local council doing that,
if anyone who has never been into wigan passes that sign they will say to themselves;-
“i didnt realise there was another sport in wigan”,
“i see the football club on MOD every week and sky and in every national newspaper, every premier league fan in the world(premier league is watched by an estimated 700 MILLION PEOPLE each week)and the all know who wigan are,but i never knew they had a rugger team as well”
i think wigan council should now put another sign up telling new visitors it is the less popular version of the game that is played in the north of england, and not the one played worldwide.
i think its very quaint and politically correct of the council -a bit like the commonwealth games integrating the less fortunate disabled athletes within the main games unlike the the IOC who seperate able bodied from the disabled leading to nobody being interested or watching, another similarity to rugby league.

Agree with most of this LMB
11 October 2010 at 3:35 am #48463just had another thought
does anone think wigan council should put up another sign explaining the ‘playoff system’ ?
or perhaps add an appendix to that new sign –
2010 super league champions
despite losing in the first round.on second thoughts, i think normal folk would be slightly confused,so better not.

glad you have registered my dear egg chasing friend -could you please explain to all of us on here what i said in a previous post.
how do you win the superleague playoff final and call yourself champions when you were beaten in the first round ? :?

Because the rules allow it.
Why is football (In most countries) the only major world sport that does not determine a champion by a playoff system?

please dont tell me you think rugby league is a major world sport,i am quite gullable but even i wont swallow that one, feck me over 60s womens beach volleyball is a major world sport compared to rugby league.
lets assume you are correct(even though you are not) and for now say that play off systems are the ‘norm’ to determine champions around the globe in “major world sport” – how many of those countries engaged in this practice allow you to LOSE in the first round of a knockout and still be champions.
11 October 2010 at 8:33 am #48469You could say that aggregate scores are just the same principle, a team could lose in the first leg then win the second. Its very similar and i do believe a lot of jealous people are nit picking on here

Its very similar and i do believe a lot of jealous people are nit picking on hereYosser, the aggregate scores are in matches between the same two teams. You don’t lose the first one and then gat a bash at someone else.

I hope the club has the balls to raise it in the relevant circles without making us look as childish as the council and the rugby club undoubtedly are. I have every confidence the club’s management will act appropriately.
