If your bothered, you can always send a complaint about why Wigan Council think it is right to re-do a load of signs costing thousands when they continue to close down public services such as libraries schools etc….
I hate the chubbies but I don’t have a problem with the council doing something to raise their profile, but when it costs thousands in these tough times, then I do have a problem. It will be the idea of that Councillor Mayor guy….Winstanley or something…..said it was the proudest day of his life…
Don’t understand why people on here are surprised.
Wigan Council have never shown any interest in Wigan Athletic unless it suited the Council, hence at the first available opportunity they removed the signs. I wonder if they will be as quick to put up new signs if and when we win a major trophy?
I won’t hold my breath.
P.s. Bet they still collect rates etc. from the club that doesn’t exist.
You could say that aggregate scores are just the same principle, a team could lose in the first leg then win the second. Its very similar and i do believe a lot of jealous people are nit picking on here
Yosser, the aggregate scores are in matches between the same two teams. You don’t lose the first one and then gat a bash at someone else.
Except for the European Cup ;)
Way off the mark yet again.
The European Cup, or should we give it its proper title, The Champions ‘League’ is what it says, a League, and not a one off match.
In a league situation you can lose and still go through because you will have amassed more points than the other teams.
Or a team that finishes 3rd in the champions league group being eliminated then gets a chance to win the europa league. Sport in general is just getting worse. To pick on one sport is just quite sad. Not the warriors fault they won the league as they did, they don’t make up the rules.
Why be so surprised, a Labour run council with an old school leader and Mayor that still thinks Latics are a lovely little club plying their trade in the back yard ofRugby League’s greatest team.
Mr Whelan and all the council tax payers would love a response from a council that is sacking 800 people and yet can find thousands of pounds to promote a single sporting acheivement and remove all signs of anything else… their actual response “no comment”

…must have had a very boring life then…
The very impartial (tory rejected) MP looks to have a very neutral tie on whilst letting people know it is the proudest day of his life….
That attendance has been erased from the memories of the neanderthals that blunder around cockney liar. I have often brought that crowd figure up whenever a jibe at a sub-12000 rugby fixture comes up. Strangely, my posts seem to either be erased or edited by their “impartial” moderators.
It feels so good that the natural order has returned to my town. I dont wish Latics harm – I just want them to always be the 2nd best sporting attraction in my town.
It also feels good being able to put it on a forum without it being deleted!
Martin Buckley from Coventry
There is one diff between the two sets of fans… We really don’t care about them, they would like to see us brushed under the carpet and forgotten about while the mind numbingly boring soccer world rolls into town. They have a massively over inflated opinion of themselves and they can’t even fill the ground when they play Manchester United, in the biggest league in the world, against the team with the biggest name. Oddly, when they play the “away end” is full, when we play its virtually empty for many games. So which is the most popular club in Wigan….?
It is popular to see us as “lodgers” but without the involvement of WRLFC, the new stadium would not have been built, its for join use, and this was required for the funding and planning permission. So although we would have had problems, Latics would be still at Springfield Park. Premier League ground? I don’t think so. Do the football fans seriously think they would be playing at “Their” new stadium if Whelan had not used WRLFC as a bargaining tool to get the Stadium built
As I write this (Mon 7-30pm) the council are replacing the new signs with the old ones. It’s comforting to know that our voice is being heard now and that this new trend of all the sites sticking together in adversity, or when there’s a campaign to be run, has a one hundred percent success rate.
