Browsing on the old tinternet and came across this web site. I’d no idea Wigan, or inedeed Springfield Park had a history in wrestling?Didn’t know Springfield Park had a wrestling tradition, but I knew Wigan was considered a bit of an amateur wrestling hotbed as all the men on my dad’s side of the family have wrestled at one time or another – and looking as some of the old family photos I have, some of the women in the family look like they could handle their own too.
Remember a documentary by itv on a club in Scholes or Whelley about twenty odd years back.A big sport in Wigan back in the olden days and in other mining towns I’m sure.
